Depth Finder/Water Temp Sensor

Hi all,

Quick question. I've purchased a Faria Depth Finder that also read the water and air temperature from two additional sensors. I went with an in-hull transducer for the depth just because I'm not excited about drilling holes in a brand new boat and don't want to worry about bumping a transom mount transducer on the trailer, or my foot.

The water temp sensor obviously has to go in the water, so I need to drill an 1/8" hole to get the wire through. Is it best to drill the hole above the water line in the transom rather than below the water line and rely on a sealer to keep the water out?

I figure if I drill the hole above the water line, I'll wrap the wire in white heat-shrink tubing so it's a bit less visible. Fortunately the our 205 Sport has the swim platform built into the hull and I can hide the sensor/wire under it next to the outdrive.

Thanks.

OK, went ahead an drilled the hole for the water temp sensor high up on the transom under the swim platform (the ware isn't visible at all when the boat is in the water.

Wired everything up (air and water temp sensors), connected the in-hull transducer, mounted it inside the hull just in front of the engine.

Everything works perfect. Very sweet setup.

Glad we could help!

Seriously, it's ALWAYS preferable to drill above the waterline when you have a choice.
