Delta Airlines - Thumbs Up!

Not taking anything away from Delta - great program.

Was at the gate waiting to catch an American flight. Inbound flight had pulled to the gate, but there was obvious activity around the plane. A crowd gathered at the windows and watched a full military honor gaurd carry and escort a fallen warrior to ground transportation. Included what must have been family members observing.

On one hand, it felt that the crowd watching from the terminal might have been viewing a private moment of the family - however - there was not a dry eye in the terminal as people watched. The respect of the crowd watching was appropiate and meaningful.

Many years ago (mid 90's) I was on a business trip and seated next to a young soldier that was escorting the remains of her uncle that Viet Nam had just released. As the plane taxied to gate there was and honor guard escort of police and fire trucks. To calm the passengers who didn't know what was happening the captain made an announcement that the plane was carrying the remains of a Viet Nam MIA.

I'll never forget the quiet and solemn respect that all the passengers showed as the casket was unloaded.

God bless all that have served our nation
