On a first trip of the year out on the Gulf on my friends 27ft SeaRay, Buzzers started going off. I found the issue, forward bilge area filling with water, Location was under stairs going into cuddy. I found alot of pieces off wood and fiberglass chunks,(some size of silver dollar) plugging pump. I remove pump head and cleaned, I had to do this 3 times on trip.Could someone please give me an educated guess wheres this coming from. Thanks ahead!

Can you add better info on the model you have? Cuddy or Sundancer? Year? The reason I ask about year is that Sea Ray didn't use 454's in that year.

Assuming it's a Sundancer... If you found junk in the step down sump area, that's where the junk came from. Get your head in there and look around REAL good, including under the head. Use a camera if needed. It could just be leftover stuff from production and the high water finally found it. But there's no way to tell for sure via a forum (can't see it from here).

The more important question, though, is why did you have high water? Find and fix the leak.

Yeah... what Dennis said!

Good luck and welcome to CSR!

Thanks Lazy.I assume water came from outside storage. I have contacted friend to get better info on boat.Im sure your correct on engine size.It was not the 350,but larger V8,I assumed the 454.This is a southern boat.So freezing issues should not be present.

The cabin is sealed from the bilge, so the water 'shouldn't' be coming from there. Your next step is to figure out if it's lake/sea water, rain water or a fresh water (onboard system or drains) leak. Once that's known, post back and we can dive into this further.

I do appreciate the responses. The amount of water at this point is not my greatest concern.I am not familiar with the bilge area "bulk heads" in this boat. Is this area only receiving water from the forward part of hull, cabin only,or does it share water from whole hull front to back. Im worried mostly of hull integrity. I don't believe this was left over from production.

Not sure exactly what you're asking here, but, as I mentioned above "The cabin is sealed from the bilge". Everything from the cabin bilge bulkhead forward is separate from the main bilge. The cabin bilge bulkhead can be seen under the cabin steps.

Leftover from production is a very likely cause - obviously I'm not there to see what you are seeing and the description is a little vague - but leftover bits is quite normal. If these pieces were actual parts of the boat rotting off, there would be A LOT more going on with the boat - it would be an EXTREME rarity.

Still gotta find the leak, though.
