Davits, Hurley or Nautley?

I have the Hurleys and while they basically work, I'm going to switch to these:

http://www.boatdavit.com/LT175-ST275specs.htm .

They look like a more stable and easier lift out of the water. Even with a Miss Michigan, the Hurleys have the boat sliding around with less than optimum control.

If anyone has any experience with the Roskelley Olsson, good or bad, I'd really appreciate hearing about it.

I would have liked to have heard and seen an answer to this question. But since Overextended has a 36 foot sedan bridge with the Nautley XL's I believe they are. I guess they would work for us? Sea Ray list maximum swim platform weight at 600 lbs, but I am also interested on operation affects with maybe as much as 400 pounds extended and weighting down off the rear of the platform. I do not know the scientific term or law, but it seems to me it would exert some sort of a reverse fulcrum effect.

Same here, as we have the 38DA with mid transom door. Keep us informed if a good solution comes up.

Thx

I am also in the process of selecting a davit system. I have a 2007 38 Sundancer with a transom door located in the center of the transom (worst thing Searay designers ever did). In order to use the transom door center of a 5'0" beam dingy must be located 17" to 18" past the trailing edge of the swim platform. Several friends of mine in a local Searay owners club have the Hurley system. I personally feel that system to be a little soft and am leaning toward the Nautley equipment. The system appears to be more robust and I like the suggested method of tying the dingy to the vessel.
Has anyone else used a Nautley on a 380 Sundancer with the transom door located in the center of the boat ?
I am planning on a 10'-4" RIB with a 5'-0" Beam and a 15 HP 4 stroke Mercury. Total weight (dingy @ 100 lbs. + motor @ 115 lbs. + 3.5 Gal fuel tank @ 32# +/-) approximately 247 lbs. I could remove the fuel tank to lighten the overhanging load.

Was referencing this post regarding a solution for 38DA with mid transom door. Keep us informed of a good solution.

Thx

Thanks everyone for your thoughts!
I purchased the Nautley Extended HD DinghyRamp and hopefully it will be money well spent.
Have you had time to evaluate your purchase decision? I have the same boat and am curious if you're satisfied with it's performance.

Thanks for for all your comments as i have been following your thread on this.

Yes, I'm extremely happy with the Nautley set up. My swim platform is high off the water but once you figure out the best way to load the dinghy it takes a little man power. My technique is to tie the bow of the dinghy off to the swim platform on the port side roughly 2 ft off platform. I attach my tie down or line to the transom of the dinghy, starboard side. I allow the line to go under the starboard tube on the dinghy which gives it lift when I pull on the line. I choke up on the line while standing on the starboard side on the boat swimplatform and pull up (this is where you need a little man power) the dinghy where its almost vertical and then push down on the dinghy so it drops on the swim platform. Works everytime once you get use to it. The stern of my dinghy is on the starboad side of my boat. There are a few pictures in my album if you click on my name. I hope this helps.

OK? The proverbial dumb question, but when installing the davits, does the dinghy size influence the spacing between the davits mounting location?

For example, lets say I have an 8 foot 9 inch dinghy later on I go to a 11 foot, do the davits then have to be remounted closer together or farther apart?

Thanks

I am probably gong to get one of these the 10.4 tenders, and use some type of Frank's" (I believe that is his name) a "Miss Michigan."

Rigid dinghy

This is the Nautley Dinghyramp spec.
11 ft. dinghy ~ 41 in. spread
10 ft. dinghy ~ 38 in. spread
9 ft. dinghy ~ 35 in. spread
8 ft. dinghy ~ 32 in. spread

Here is a reply I received from Nautley Marine Inc. I had mentioned a weight of 450 pounds, but actually what I am looking at is probably closer to somewhere between 325-350 pounds. For my use I will probably go with a three gallon tank if possibly so the weight may actually be closer to 315 with tank, if I remove the tank then possibly less then 300 pounds or right at the 300 pound mark

Hi,

Thank you for your interest in DinghyRamp Pull-On Boat Lifts. Nautley
marine has several DinghyRamp products for different yacht and tender
applications. Nautley has used the DinghyRamp XL Roll-On to carry 450
pound tenders; however the yachts are 50ft. An additional 450 pounds
on the back of a 38 will certainly affect the yacht’s handling.

The DinghyRamp XL is rated for a maximum of 250 lbs per lifting arm
when using 32 inches of swim platform. Half the dry tender weight
plus engine weight will be an estimate of the weight on the stern
lifting arm.

Rollers provide an advantage for smooth hull designs. Based on the
tender’s stepped hull design we would typically recommend the
DinghyRamp HD Slide-On. The HD models are rated for 200 lbs per
lifting arm. Three lifting arms would be required.

If you plan on using an electric winch mounted in the center of the
yacht, the winch would need to be mounted 4 – 5 feet above the swim
platform surface to achieve enough angle to clear the side of the
tender. Nautley recommends the use of a block and tackle pulley
system; one for the bow and one for the stern.

Please contact us with your thoughts. We hope to enhance your boating
experience!

I made my first trip with my new Nautley HD davits this weekend. I have a 8'6" Walkerbay RIB and a 9.8 HP OB engine. Total weight is about 250 lbs. The davits worked extremely well and i didnt need to remove the OB when i was underway. We were in some big waves when we left for Port Jefferson L.I. and the davits performed very nicely. It takes 2 people to slide the RIB up on the lifting arms but it was rather easy once we figured out where to position it. I fastened a line around both lifting arms and tied them to the inside of the RIB to keep it snug to the lifting arms, then used 2 ratcheting tie downs, in a criss-cross pattern to secure the RIB to the metal hooks on either side of the swim platform. This kept the RIB from moving side to side, or tilting back towards the water while underway. I will post pictures and start a new thread to show how i did it. All in all, what a great system. Easy to install (about 30 minutes total), easy to use (2 people can easily slide a 250 lbs dinghy on the lifting arms), and very nice looking.

I also added the Nautley ramp and ran with it this weekend. All in all easy to install, easy to use, Very Happy with it. Bob

My marina neighbor has this style davit on his 2000 340DA. It is easy to use (does not require a lot of strength), but does overhang significantly and he has mentioned it makes it hard to get the bow of the boat down when running.

I am considering more a hurley/nautley style davit for my 340. Only real concern is how it affects the performance of the vessel and how much strength it really requires, as the swim platform is high off the water.

I posted pictures of the Nautley Dinghyramp in my album. It works really well and I'm very pleased. I couldn't figure out how to post them on the thread.

B-Fitting - 2 questions on your set up:

1. It appears you did not center the davits, but rather mounted them off-center, to Starboard, to allow better access to the walk way. If this is accurate, how does this affect the balance of the boat when motoring through the harbor, as well as on plane (when trim tabs may correct any issues)

2. How has this affected the overall performance of the boat (getting on plane, manueverability/responsiveness, gas mileage, etc.)

Thanks!

I have Nautley davits on my 410DA. My dinghy is a 10' Airdeck with 15HP 4 stroke Marcury. The rig is about 225 lb total. Getting the dinghy on by myuself requires some effort but nothing unreasonable. My dink also sits off-center to allow access to transom door - it actually seem to provide better weight balance.

With so much weight aft, I need fully extended tabs to maintain a reasonable running angle (this boats tend to ride bow high anyway) but no effect on balance at slow speeds. Also, surprisingly little effect on cruising speed and fuel usage.

You might also want to look up St. Croix Davits and check them out. Looking at adding the Model 488 to the back of Gimme Time so we can lift and take with us our Rendova hard bottom which has a 30HP Honda.

Is there anyway I can see some picture? I would really like to see your set up. How big is your swim platform? Mine is about 3 foot by eleven foot. What type/make of davits? Two or three rail davits? I have a similar set up I want to mount, but I am still researching what I need, mine is maybe a bit heavier(?)

Thanks

Anybody with a 300 SDA and Hurley/Nautley Davits?

I think to buy them. Mounting off center to starboard, so I can still go on platform through the transom door.

When performing an sudden stop, is the dinghy sitting high enough and not affected by the big stern wave that roles towards the platform and even sometimes spills over the platform?

B-Fitting--how are the Nautley's working for you? I have a 2007 34' da with the moulded platform. My inflatable is a deep V air platform 8'8"" w/ a 5 hp outboard, 61" beam and I am wondering if my swim platform is wide enough that I don't have to go to the extended version. What issues,if any have you had? Did you install with backing plates?

Worryknot

The Nautley is working great. I have a 9'6" air floor bottom dink, 5'2" wide with a 9.8hp 4 stroke motor. My swim platform is 32" deep, I purchased the extended DinghyRamp to give me an extra 4 inches. No issues, just figuring out the best way to retrieve takes some time getting use to. I did install the backing plates, not sure if I needed to. I would highly recommend this system.

I second that. Only thing that takes time is the retrieval, but it is a great set-up for our style/size boat. I would do it again.

Appreciate all of the feedback I have read on this thread. Wondering if anyone has any experience with the Nautley XD Slide-On for a 420 Sundancer. I have an 11 ft RIB (Apex) with a 15hp. My wife wants a much swim platform remaining as possible. best to go with the extended arms then? Also, it's winter so I can't get at the boat for measurements but the Nautley guy told me the platform on this boat is 20-24 inches above the waterline. I have diesels...I do not recall this much height. If I were to guess, I would have said maybe 16 inches max. Any feedback is greatly appreciated.
