I own a 2001 Searay Amberjack 340 with 8.1 mercruzers and would like to install underwater exhaust because the noise level is going to end my days on the water .Wife is overwealmed with the noise. What should I do.

The underwater exhaust is definitely quieter......I guess the changeover could be done, but it requires a different muffler; one with split exhausts; underwater and outside. The question is if your engine room has the space for the exhaust plumbing. You will have to add the bronze underwater exhaust fitting as well. Do the research, find a good yard you trust to quote the work, and most of all, ride some boats with the system you plan to install so you will know what to expect, and not be dissapointed. Oh yea, the wife too.

Daver, by way of a food for thought item, when you get the bid(s) from one or more boat yards to do the work, consider what it would cost to trade your 340 for another Amberjack or Dancer that has the underwater exhaust. You might find it cheaper to trade than to have the work done.

Do a search for mufflers here...
