Dash Small.jpg

Hi, new here. Looking at a used Sea Ray 290 Select - 2004. It is in very good condition.

There is only one real spot of concern and it is on the dash. Not sure if someone leaned on it often, but the gel-coat is either stained, or worn down. It is smooth, not tacky and does not have any cracks or gouges in it.

I am looking for advice on how easy this will be to buff, clean, repaint etc. and what the cost would wind up being for the repair.

Thank you in advance.

What does the current owner say about it/what caused it?

Try some acetone.

Thank you for the response. It is a convoluted process with multiple sales people. Boat will be an incoming trade as soon as they purchase a brand new boat from them. My salesperson has reached out to ask, but has been a couple of days now so I thought I would reach out here to see if it was a common problem.

I will wait until I hear more and let you know.

thanks.

From what I can see in the picture, it doesn't appear that the gelcoat is worn away. It would look different. This is just a guess, but it could be from dash cover. Covers don't normally do that, but I suppose it depends on the material and maybe whether it was getting wet. Or, like you said, someone with very, very dirty arms leaned there often! Anyways, chances are very likely that it will simply clean off. Good luck with the sale!

Thanks again. Still waiting on the response from salesman.... but something dawned on me last night. They had a GPS stored underneath that was black and had a pole mount. Cant see in this picture but there is a windshield brace right behind it and slightly to the left. I think it may be where they attached the GPS unit and may have been rubbing on the dash.

I get black marks on the tan dash from the vacuum hose rubbing. I cleaned it off with maybe a little bit of soap and water/scrubbing routine? Gotta be carful not to make a shiny spot if the dash has a matte/flat finish though. The area of the dash I get the marks is a separate piece that appears painted where the rest of the dash seems like gel coat.

Thank you again. Deal is moving very slowly. Have not received any Sufi notice answers yet. But again, I think this stood out so much because the rest of the boat is so clean.
