I have been doing a lot of driving lately from Indiana to Michigan and along the way I have seen some pretty crazy things. So I started to look into a Dash Cam. There are a million different versions and prices all over the place. The other day I came across this camera on Ebay and for $20 for 2 and free shipping I couldn't go wrong. So I thought I would try it and it does pretty good.. Below is an example of picture quality (I haven't set the time stamp)... it does a poor to fair job at night.
It needs to be plugged in. If your car is like mine the 12v supply turns off with the ignition and so does the camera. You need a little Micro SD card to record to... I had a 16GB that was laying around.. I think it can handle up to 32GB. Just thought I would share incase someone was thinking about doing the same thing

pretty good quality for that price

They make a lot of sense nowadays. With all the maniacs around and insurance seemingly trying to get out of paying any claim, it's nice to have some evidence. I saw another system that links the front and rear cameras together. Slightly more expensive, but good to get the whole perspective.

If nothing else you'll be able to go back and look at all the footage of drivers staring at their laps texting while flying down the road at 70mph. Its hard to believe there are not 100+ car pileups everyday during rush hour

Here is one crazy example 4 weeks ago in Michigan at 7:00 in the morning ... I had to take a pic with my phone and I could barely keep the car straight on the icy road... The roads were extremely slippery it was almost impossible to change lanes without slowing way down... How he ever thought he was getting off was beyond me.

I have a still-functional older smartphone that i've repurposed as my dashcam. Free app, too. Very happy with it over the past 3 years.

Would like to know more about your setup, equipment, free app info & a picture of your setup if you’d share the info!

Crazy that we're even thinking about this. Times ave definitely changed and I'm only 44. I can't believe that we're becoming more of an observed society. Aldous Huxley would be proud.

I have a Samsung Note 3 and the DailyRoads Voyager free Android app from Google Play store. It's mounted on a suction cup windshield mount, and powered through the 12v power plug. It would work for a boat too.

Great quality for the price. I've had the same dash cam for a few years now and thankfully have not had to pull any video off it until Monday when I encountered someone with a severe case of road rage that thankfully ended before it escalated even further. That being said, I am now adding one to our other vehicle.

Thanks for the link.

Thanks for the info as I’ll look it up

You tube is full of dash cam accidents from mainly Russia, apparently there’s so many BS insurance claims almost everyone has a dash cam. Not to mention if you watch a few you’ll nodoubably say ,why do they drive so fast and crazy in snow?

I found this vintage message thread after searching for “dashcam.”

After far too many close calls, I got a vehicle dash cam for my own protection. Here is one close call where I was able to avoid a head on collision https://www.facebook.com/1162547877/posts/10218424620344471?sfns=mo

I also was able to use my dash cam to avoid a false claim where I was pulled over by law enforcement for making a left turn during a red light. I was innocent and the officer did apologize, but without my dash cam I feel I would have been ticketed. My Garmin combination GPS Dashcam paid for itself that day alone.

I’m now looking for boat dashcam information. As a YouTube content creator, I’ve got many GoPro cameras but for a dash cam I’d like some of the features dash cameras are known for such as dual recording and auto on / off with external power. I haven’t found a unit specifically intended for boats but I will keep looking.

I started driving from Indiana to Michigan every week 3 years ago.... The crazy driving I saw was insane.... Hitting the center barrier, 360's, driving in the ditch...it was a gong show to say the least... So I felt I needed to film this crazy stuff ..I put a camera system in the car two years ago and not a single thing has happened since..:(. So I guess it worked

Here’s hoping it keeps working that way for you. :)
