Damage at LOTO

Brent.... haven't been down since the first pf January. Plan to go next weekend. May want to check out this forum. A lot of full time homeowners frequent this board. I've been able to to keep up with the "going-ons" at the lake.

Spoke to the service manager at our dealer last weekend. They just hauled back 2 customer boats back that had extensive damage. It sounds like some of the marinas will have vacancies because a lot of the boats will be out of the water getting repaired. He heard that in some cases dealers and repair shops in the LOTO area were already booked out over a year to repair the boats with extensive damage.

I heard the same thing too. Apparently they are backed up so far, people are trading their damaged boats in and buying new boats. I'm guessing this will bring the prices of boats up. I was just down there earlier this week and saw some of the damage. It looks as if most dock roofs are dismantled and sitting in big piles around the lake.

So, how about an update on the storm recovery efforts at LOTO. Still a mess or have they got it under control and rebuilding?

I was down at the end of March when we were getting temps near 80 and it looks like a lot of places are getting up pretty quickly. I drove by water down to Port Arrowhead and they had everything cleared out and had guys working on the roofs. I guess it takes a big storm to get people in gear down there, it's usually the "slowzarks."

Fourth of July

What are your thoughts about the fourth this year at the lake? Do you think both weekends will be crazy busy since the 4th is on a Wednesday.

I only have a 24 foot Sundancer--and I am thinking about avoiding both weekends and the weekdays over the fourth.

Good question. I usually don't get down there on the 4th, but I would guess the weekend before may be busier. Also whatever weekend fireworks will be displayed at Four Season will be the busy weekend. Do you go to LOTO often? Since I don't boat on the weekends, I get a kick out of going down during the holidays. I never get to see it crazy and its exciting. Now if I went down every weekend, I'd get tired of it.

I spent many a crazy weekend at the Lake before the birth of my daughter. So I try to go on slower weekends.

Actually--the last crazy weekend I spent was a 4th of July that several people were injuried or died. Maybe--3 years ago. It has scared me off for a few years.

But I am ready for another crazy weekend.
