Ok guys...I did a little searching, but without literally reading through a million posts, I am at a loss.

I need to get some bedding for our 320DA, specifically, the V Berth. I looked at www.searaywearables.com and they ONLY offer white sheets, no color options, no comforter etc...

Any help is appreciated.

if you want options...i was looking for Flounder Pounder Marine's (alot of new SR surplus incl comforters and such) web address and typed "Sea Ray bedding" into google, got 4-5 other hits I wasn't even aware of for bedding.

This is really a frustrating position to be in. Can somebody please explain to me why a comforter is $500.00 plus? $200.00 for ONLY 300 thread count sheets?

Dont get me wrong, its not that I cant afford it, but this to me, is just one of those things that boat owners take it in the shorts on.

We tend to take it in the shorts on most things we buy for our boats. It's just a way of life!

I married a farm gal that knows how to make things from scratch. :smt001

Dee made our custom fit sheets. .

PS, Yep they are sissy colored and have flowers on them. :smt100

It's economics. The market for things like these is relatively small so they need to charge more to make it worthwhile. I'm an app developer catering to boaters so i have a little insight on the demographics. Consider that the majority of recreation boats do not have beds. Of the boats that do have beds, how many people actually use them? At this point you have already narrowed your market pretty thin. For the number that do use the beds, how many really care about the sheets? Smaller number. Of those remaining people, how many will just buy something adequate at Target? You are now left with a small market and need to charge a lot.

Hello everyone -

I can't speak for other companies but I'll add a few comments about our pricing and products.

Made in the USA
We hire local employees and manufacture soft goods (bedding, drapery, upholstery, etc.) here in the US. In many cases it does cost more to manufacture something local and I know in our case we work hard to pay our employees a very fair wage. All of our goods are hand made and our people who sew earn a fair amount. We have other options available for manufacturing and I'm proud to say we have kept it local.

Fabric Quality
We work with established fabric mills that produce a true high quality cloth. Unfortunately, the US based mills that produced fabric for sheeting (i.e. wide width fabrics) have been decimated. This industry no longer exists in the US. The only option left is to import fabric from overseas which costs more than if it were available in the US. We work hard with our mills overseas to ensure the fabric is a high quality as opposed to only focusing on a thread count number (i.e. not all thread counts are created equal). Our cotton fiber quality, yarn size, construction (including thread count), and finishing processes all contribute to the high quality of our fabric. We could buy a lower quality fabric at a lower price but choose to maintain a certain level of quality.

Cotton
The price of cotton recently has reached record pricing levels for a few different reasons. We actually resisted raising prices last year even though our costs went up due to the price of cotton. Unfortunately, the cotton market has been very volatile.

Custom Products
Buying or manufacturing custom products is always a more expensive option than the alternative. All of our products are custom-fitted for each specific mattress and is not universal and/or adjustable in size. It costs less to manufacture bedding in bulk that's universal (e.g. one size fits all) but will always be more expensive for the one-off custom products.

I hope this provides a little insight and is helpful.

Thanks
Stephen

Use some king size old or cheap sheets, cut out what you will need (aka a template) then pick out the comforter, and sheets you like on line or at Wally World, then have a local seamstress make your new ones using the template you made from the more economically priced comforter and sheets. We did that, they fit perfect, have the patterns and colors we chose, and all for less than $175.
You do not need professionally made, custom bedding to sleep any better.

I agree to a point, but when you can buy good quality sheets at [insert store] then make a template and bring said sheets and template to a local seamstress and have them altered to fit at a total of 1/2 the cost, then something doesn't add up.

A seamstress doesn't rely on the boating industry though. They make their money on general alterations and altering a comforter is just another alteration to them...doesn't matter if it's for the home, boat, RV, dog house, etc. On the flip side, a company that caters to the boating industry isn't hemming a pair slacks for side money.
