I recently had to replace my radio in my SeaRay 175 due to it taking a dump on me. So this time I replaced it with an actual marine deck. The Sony deck that I got has a wired remote capability. I really like that idea because it is such a pain to operate the radio in the glove compartment that I hardly every use it like I want too (cant mute it to yell at a skier or to hear them call).

So I bought this way cool wired remote that is waterproof and has an LCD display. However, there was no place to mount it. There were no flat surfaces available in the pilots cockpit area to mount it on. And even if there was I would need to drill a 3" hole, which I was not too keen on.

So, I decided to do some fiberglass work to make it sit on the dashboard in an otherwise useless area. The pod that I made to hold it is simply an adapter that matches the contour of the dash and provides an offset to mount the remote above the dash. The only hole needed was for the wires. Very handy.

The pictures on photobucket are kind of out of order, but you can get the idea pretty easy.

That looks like it came that way from the factory, nice.

Thanks. It took some looking to find a paint and caulk that matched close, but these came out darn near perfect matches.

Very impressive!

Now, what are you going to do about that nasty key float and the old, yellowing, cup holder? Paint the holder? Replace with a new white one or an SS one?

But seriously, very nice work!:smt001

Ha! I guess they had never bothered me. I suppose I could easily replace both. I would also like to take off the woodgrain dashboad panel and lay carbon fiber over it. I think that would look pretty sweet.

Next project though is getting new seats. The old ones are just about shot.

The angle that the second picture was taken at just made them stand out, that's all.

Seats shot? Do you mean the vinyl is torn?

The frames are shot and the vynil is tearing. I had to go in and rescrew everything back together but it is not gonna last another season I dont think. Plus I really hate how low those seats are. I wanna order some new ones that sit about 6 inches higher so you can actuall pilot the boat in the seat.

Thanks for the kind words on the pod. If anyone is interested in doing fiberglass work, send me a PM and I will send you some PDF tutorials that I got off a website a while back. The site has been shut down, but I pdf'ed it to make sure I would not lose it.

Hmmmm... Seeing you're good at glass work.... How 'bout this: Tear out the carpet, re-finish with non-skid, then add a bucket seat for the driver with the "flip-up" feature like the newer boats? If you still want carpet, make it snap-in/out.
