Custom Camper Canvas for Sundancer - Help with Options

I am about to meet with a few canvas guys to order a custom Camper Canvas for my 06 320 Sundancer. I mainly want to cover the cockpit during the sunny time of the day and get some bug protection in the evening. I realize that there are a few options I might want to concider. What has worked well for you?

• Where do I attach the new top cover (arch or existing top cover)?
• Get screen windows or eisenglass or both

What else do I need to know before I pick a canvas guy?

Not sure what you mean by "attaching". Are you referring to where the new rear bimini will attach to the boat or how the canvas will connect?

There are different grades of clear vinyl (eisenglass). The thicker, the better - clearer vision. Although, if you're only adding on the back, no big deal.

You'll want a BIG window on the aft piece - so you can see well when backing down.

It would be nice to incorporate some sort of "window sunshade" into the side and rear windows.

Get tinted eisenglass for the rear sides with screens in them as well as the back. Depending on the tint level, you might not want it in the back though.

Most side windows that I've seen have screens too. We wouldn't be able to stand the muggy, night time heat if we didn't. With as nice a boat as you have, you should get the screens. As far as attaching it, your "canvas guy" will help with that & as far as choosing a guy...I say call some shops & ask for references. Hell, by the time this thread is through some guys here will point you in the right direction.

While Gioia Sails wasn't the OEM canvas maker for the 320 - we have been doing OEM work for SeaRay (among others) for many years. If you are looking for someone who can consult with you on all the options available (and can actually get the product at a good price) and match the new canvas with your existing, you may want to give us a shot. :grin:
