Been having a problem were my port engine will just shut down while docking. It will start back up with no problems but you never now when it will shut down on you. Seems to be after the boat has been a for a cruise and we get back too the dock. Any ideas what it could be?? Maybe the RPM,s are too low.

Rob, I don't know if this is applicable to your 6CTA's, but I had a very similar experience with my 480CE's (below is a link to the thread). I have been traveling so I haven't had time to work on it so I don't have a definte solution for you, but others have reported similar occurrences. I plan on checking my fire-suppression system first, and then contacting Cummins to find out what Calibration code is on my engines.

Good luck and keep us posted on your findings,

Art

Rob, when I had a boat with those engines, I had a similar problem. Turned out to just be the idle set too low as you suggest.

I had a similar problem where the engine would die at slow idle BUT it would start extreamly hard when it was hot. I had the ECMs recalibrated and it fixed my issue.(See articel above from boat diesel)
