CSR Northeast Flotilla 2016

For the LI contingent........We are seriously thinking about leaving Hyannis a day early or taking an extra day [or two] to break up the trip home. The plan etched in the sand at low tide would strongly consider Cuttyhunk, and or Newport, Greenport or Riverhead.

Ron

Best plan would be take extra couple days and enjoy. Just my opinion.

Some of us have been talking about Montauk as the stop over. I think RYME II mentioned it also. Newport would be great as we liked that town, but it would still leave a long run home. I estimated Hyannis to Montauk as being 86nm (109 statue miles) which means 5+ hours for me. Greenport and Riverhead would be more too.

P1 for taylors! And as for the stop over to break up the trip I would prefer block as it is the most direct stop (and my favorite) . But montauk is good to. Montauk is probably more practical because we're going to need to take on fuel and block is very expensive. But hey I'll b on vacation so I'll just lay back and go with the flow. And if I had to pick it would like to stay with the group leave Sunday and extend my trip by a day or two.

Keep the votes coming.

Hi. I'm a newbie here. Can I and my family (wife and 2 girls, 7&9) come just for Shelter Is? I'm not sure I can get that week off of vacation, but would love to go to Taylor Is in Shelter to meet some folks and hang out for a couple days.

Got you on the official list on the first page, John. It's that easy!

Welcome to the flotilla!

When you have a chance, give me the crew names and the boat name.

Yessir.

Looking forward to it. We already have vacation planned for July (Watch Hill and Block) and in August (Montauk), but we're looking into switching and maybe adding a few days to this trip, but for now, Shelter Is is a go for that weekend. My vote is also Taylor Is for the port. We've moored outside of Rams Head and dinghy'd over to that island. Beautiful spot.

Girls are Cora (9) and Ava (7). Boat name, Corava (I guess I don't need to explain the boat name now). :)
The Admiral is Cheryl.

Looking forward to meeting some folks.

For those that have never been to Cuttyhunk I strongly suggest you try to go. I agree it wouldn't be a great spot for the whole group but its a very cool island and unique in the northeast. I have been going for well over 30 years, and still enjoy it.

Alex was spot on about the outer harbor, not a fun place to be.

Inner harbor is very tight and the holding not so great. The moorings fill up fast - especially thurs-sunday. On weekends most moorings are empty for less than 30 minutes as many who spent the first night in outer harbor are prowling in the AM for the open moorings for the second night.

The poles are owned by the town and are the same fee as moorings, the water is shallow in that section.

One of the cool aspects of staying there is there is a Raw Bar boat that goes through the harbor at cocktail hour, the oysters are home grown. There are also two fish markets on the pier that will boil lobsters for you to take back to have for dinner - one of our favorite activities for the island!

As for the extra days, I am personally not a huge fan of Hyannis. It will be a good stop for two nights but that's about it IMHO. For those of you coming from NY, I would think the extra day in MV would be better. For us we use MV as a day trip/weekend spot so we would likely join for Shelter and one or two nights in MV and then head home or continue on somewhere else.

John, thanks for additional info. I've updated your record on the first page.

Here are the latest votes. Keep them coming. We need to settle on the port for the Flotilla kick off feast.

I would be interested in doing the Shelter Island part of the trip.
Wouldn't be able to do the other parts of the trip.

Even though we have not been there before, we will vote for Taylor Island.

Shelter Isl is a lot of fun, everyone loves it.

Whenever you're ready give me your info to be added on the list of participants on the firs page.

Good choice, Harold. I'm sure you'll like Taylor's.

Alex, I hope there are sea shells there, otherwise Arlene is going to want me to bring her to Shell Beach in West Neck Harbor and I will need to borrow your dinghy to get there!!

Don't we usually keep Janothan's boat at the end, for trips to get sea shells, water, booze....?

Nope usually im dead center of the raft because I bring all the excitement, entertainment, and dance floor and I try to position myself so the end boats have an equal walk to me!
