CSR Northeast Flotilla 2015

We had a great time and would like to attend again this year. At least we're planning it.

We ended our trip last year with a 3 day stop in Newport and will likely do it again this year. So, it you all want to make Newport a stop, we'll be there. Looking forward to a lower fuel bill this year!

-Mike

Great time indeed, Mike!

Let me know when I can put you on the list of participants.

Shady Harbor Marina in New Baltimore is a nice stop on the Hudson. It's a couple hours north of Kingston, and there is a nice restaurant and pool at the marina. We have been there several times - very scenic, and a fun area to explore by dinghy too.

Dale

Put me on for Block Island, Newport, etc. Hudson is too far for our window of time.

Got you on the list, Mike.

I guess it's time to engage the spreadsheets to make it easier for submitting the votes.

I've heard from Dean and Tammie.

Anyone else wishes to submit their votes?

If a port of your choice is missing, let me know and I'll add it to the list.

I hope to talk it out with the Admiral tonight. Had hot and cold water pipes freeze on me this morning, with a burst in the hot water line. Took 4 hours this morning, but all thawed and repaired thanks to my contractor and plumber!!

Harold i feel for ya!! My heat shut down yesterday the house went to 51* its hard to think about our trip right now. Stay warm guys!!

Wow, sorry to hear about the troubles, guys. These winters are just getting worst here up north every year. :smt013

The thoughts of summer trips help me stay warm.

Ok I checked a few sites. And I believe Cuttyhunk is probably a long shot at 87mi from Shelter so that might have to wait for most of us. I'd love to go though. So my votes right now are:
P1- Taylors Is
P2-Napatree
P3-E.Greenwich

Ok, here are our choices (in our "ideal" travel order):

P1 – Taylor’s Island
P2 – East Greenwich
P3 – Newport
P4 – Greenport

We will use Greenport as a stop-over to break up the run for the way home.
We will join the raft-up for Taylor’s and East Greenwich and get a slip at a marina for Newport so that we can have easier access to land for exploring the city.

I thought we were doing the Keys! LOL - I guess were out this year as we're staying in fla....If I'm home when you guys come in I will visit by car......I will offer some feedback too....I was at the brewers in greenwich bay (not the coweset yard) for a couple of years and its a great facility.....the bulk of the "party" has since moved into the "cove" on water street but why bother? If you go to newport its WAY better (thats were everyone from greenwich bay goes on the weekend) and if your looking to anchor out a day or two and do some watersports try Mackeral Cove (plenty of room) or Dutch Harbor on jamestown.....plus there is a nice town and lots of shops and restaurants there too. A plan B if you cant get a mooring in newport could be one in jamestown (Connanicut Marine) - its not a bad dinghy ride or theres a water shuttle. Another option for a "fun day" is to run up to potters cove on prudence island (again, plenty of room)

As far as Newport is concerned The Newport Harbor Hotel has changed management and long time assistant dockmaster Heather is back and now the Dockmaster. The property now has a Tiki Bar out back along with an indoor pool. The price is somthing like $5.25/ft. Let me know if I can help in any way

Joe,

I agree on the Cuttyhunk. IMO, if you make a commitment heading that way, then Cutty should be just a jumping off point to the "Northern Caribbean islands" (Elizabeth, Martha's Vinyard, Nantucket, etc). There's no point going just to Cutty.

Napatree - IMO, it's a great spot for a day or overnight, even for a weekend. However, I'm not sure that going from Shelter Isl to WH it's a good choice for port #2, staying for 2 nights/3 days. Unless, you wish to have just water and beach related activities. BTW, Napatree is a nice beach. But, don't expect much from the "town". It's literally one street "town" with one or two (not highly rated) restaurants.

E.Greenwich - Beautiful spot. It's like going to Shelter Isl plus have a town. Excellent dining options right on the water. However, the problem I see with this approach is that you're traveling great distance and passing by one of the best destinations on the NE, the town of Newport. Obviously, to each his own, but IMO, if you made it to Narragansett Bay area, stop in Newport for few days, on the way to E.Greenwich, would be very logical and preferred approach.

I probably mentioned this before, but anytime I plan a trip, I try to mix the ports having some more on the nature side (like Shelter Isl) and some with more shore activities (like Newport, Mystic, Montauk, Block, etc). Diversifying it in such way allows to see and do different things, which might be necessary to be in line with the weather. For example, we not going to have all perfect beach days. So, on a iffy day, having a port with more shore activities and site seeing, would come very handy.

I hope this helps a little.

Good ports, Harold. Duly noted.

Guys, I have to make a minor correction on your votes. It looks like your P1, P2, P3....represent the order of the ports. What I had in mind for the Ps, is actually the preference level for any port. For example, when I'm picking my top 3 or 4 ports, as you can see, I've marked them all with P1. This means that those 4 ports are my top preference level. The lower preference ports I've marked as P2 and P3. The order of ports is something different, which we'll address later.

I'm sure this was addressed while ago, but I'll just remind the primary reason for this approach. Let's say we have several votes:

Taylors Isl: P1, P1, P1, P1
West Neck HBR: P1, P1, P2, P2

The winner in this case is Taylor's Isl, b/c it has most of the P1s.

So, the current goal is to choose the ports based on your preference level (which ones you like best)
