CSR Northeast Flotilla 2013

Alex,
I want to suggest the following changes. Can we get the Rendevous to migrate east for those may wish to continue to destinations east. Itinerary suggestion:

1. Shelter Island(Coecles Harbor-anchorage) Suggesting Coecles over West Neck as there is more room for a raft up if we get a good turn out.
2. Cruise to Norwich (marina)
3. Cruise to Block island (anchorage and marina)
4. Cruise to Newport ( marina) or Greenport/Riverhead for those wishing to head back west.

From Newport, captains can decide to continue east to Martha's Vinyard, Nantucket, etc...

This also allows for rotating between anchorages and marinas......

Steve,

I was thinking about your suggestion and have some comments:

- You made a great point that sometime in to the trip we might have a group that would like to keep heading eastbound and other that would like to start working their way back westbound.
- You itinerary sounds good, but it makes a bit more aggressive since in the end will end up with 4 legs and 5 ports (see option "C"). I think for one week it's too much and we won't have enough time.
- I made some adjustments and think that options "D" and "E" work a little better (keeping within 3 legs and 4 ports). However, majority will have to choose between Newport and Norwich.

Great discussion and we have plenty of options to discuss. In any event we're always open for more suggestions. Keep them coming.

Let me guess how this is going to turn in to a flotilla. You anchor your boat near WH and we're going to do circles around you? Oh wait, you don't have an anchor. Well I guess that's not gonna work.

No my friend, this time you'll have to actually burn all the fuel in your tank within one season (during the flotilla week). Sherri said yes, so I'm not taking any BS from you...

Oh man! The hits just keep coming! Priceless! Did Sherri actually give you an approval for the trip Saturday?? She probably was past the 0.08 limit at that point!

If I had a dog in this fight, and I'm not saying that I do, I would probably go for #4. I've heard great things about Newport from Larry. For someone in my situation, not much experience in long voyages and travelling with 3 small-antsy children, that seems to be the best option.

Also, what about Mystic? Wasn't there people on this forum that said if you stay there you get the aquarium to yourself at some point or something like that?

Todd, as I understand you refer to this option.

Itinerary “D”
1. Shelter Island, 1 night.
2. Cruise to Norwich (marina), 2 nights.
3. Cruise to Block island (anchorage and marina), 3 nights.
4. Splitting in to two Groups to Newport. 2 nights (...captains can decide to continue east to Martha's Vinyard, Nantucket, etc...) or Greenport/Riverhead (1 night) for those wishing to head back west.

- Since this will be the first long boating voyage for number of folks I would suggest to keep thing in balance between travel time and downtime to relax in the ports. Thus, IMO if we doing only 8 nights, then I would keep it 4 ports and 3 legs voyage. Don't forget that all of these itineraries don't include your travel time from/to your home port.
- In this option "D" in order to hit Newport it puts you further East on port #4 leg 3. If you plan on heading West to Greenport or Riverhead after that you'll need extra day(s) to finish the voyage in comfortable manner.
- Don't get me wrong, I'm not against Newport (I like it very much and don't mind to go back there), just pointing some things out that might be overlooked.

Mystic - it's a great port and for those that never been there I strongly suggest to put it on the radar. The only reason I didn't include it was b/c we have been there two years in a row. But, if majority will vote to have this as one of the ports I won't object.

I'll add the "Other suggested ports" section to the first page.

Alex,

geez, I can't even get my letters and numbers straight!! LOL I was actually thinking of option "E". My main concern with that one would be the long leg back home for me, if I was going that is.

Alex,

WOW.. I think we are in for "e" or "e2". Again, depending on lots determining factors we may stay @ Block and catch the group again en route to Greenport if that becomes the final float plan.

Hahaha........ I knew had to get things mixed up as it didn't look as a conservative option for you. No worries, as we get more feedback and suggestions from others and at least finalize the ports I'll do the spreadsheet and it'll be much easier to see the overall pictures with all the options.

Sign me up.

Way to go Greg. You're on.

That's also an option, Ron. Whatever works for you, but beleave me if you can make block, Newport is just stone throw away and you'll make it with no problem. I'll add the approx. distances and approx. travel times for each leg later in the spreadsheet. It was too much work doing it on the images.

Sounds like fun guys. Wish I could come. :(

Alvin, of course you can. All you need is a boat and a crew. Last I heard you're in the position to replace your 240DA. Hope you get a new ride soon (you should be able to do it easily between now and august). Then, all you need is to cross over to LI south shore and team up with our GSB gang. It'll be just follow boat "which ever" from there on.

Going to hold out till at least next year. Was going to wait for the new 310 Venture, but it still would be very cost prohibative. And the wife really likes the Sedan Bridges. So we are going to start looking next year for a used Meridian 341.

Sounds like a plan. My dock-mate is selling his 341 (not damaged from Sandy), let me know if you're interested and I'll get you all the details.

Guys, don't forget that I always put most of the important info on the first page, so you don't have to read pages and pages to find an answer to a simple question.

Anyway, keep the questions coming.

Alex, Hope you all have a great time... W plan on staying close this summer. We will make a couple trips to AC and more to HBH... With anticipation for of high fuel cost, increased taxes and insurance, we want to leave some money for food... I wish Block was closer...

Thanks Rod. You can always come by car/ferry and meet us in Block for a weekend. Last year Rich brought his truck and the dinghy. It worked out perfect as we had ground transportation and Rich's crew was always participating in water activities and our raft party during the day.

If Newport becomes a reality and you would like help with a Marina, The Newport Harbor Hotel is my home port. I could talk to the dockmaster and try to arainge somthing. the jazz fest is aug 2-4 so as long as you avoid that, there should be availability - let me know...
