CSR Gathering, Cape May Edition

At Schooner's, I spoke with Rebecca....609-729-8900. I asked to be next to Festivus and Sea Drive. She said that we will be on the "C" dock.

I may have a 390DA (Gas) (Dolce Vita) following me ...he's trying to clear up his calendar....Mike and Josephine with 2 kids...they were at BIH '07.

If Dolce Vita doesn't make it, so far, it looks like I'm the "little" boat.......Sea Mark don't count....that's his home dock....

Since I'm only going to be there for Sunday with you guys, (I have to leave Monday morning......:smt089) do you want to plan on going out to a local restuarant togehter Sunday for dinner? We can decide where later.

Thanks for the legwork, Dom... I look forward to (finally) meeting you.

I'm up for dinner, but be careful what you ask for... between Ryan and I we have four kids: 2,4,8 & 10. All we need is a six year old and we've got the even numbers covered!

Man, I'd love to make that trip! But I'm surprised to be getting another shot at the Atlantic this weekend. We've got Beach Haven early part of next week, then AC the latter part (with two other boats from our marina). That's about as far as I'm allowed right now after a mildly harrowing return trip from Ocean City NJ last summer. Dom, I know it's do-able on the inside but I am NOT interested in that long, hot, flea-bitten schlep. Maybe another day, another time.

You guys will have a great time at Schooner Island. There are several people at our marina that make that an annual trip and they rave about the place. Car rental is a must, from what i hear. We rented a mini-van :)smt009 gimme a break, it was two families!) in Ocean City last summer and it worked out swimmingly.

SAFE TRIP!

I've been keeping an eye on TS Fay's path. I'm hoping for the Western track!!! If it heads back out over the Atlantic, it will make for a 3 hour rolly-polly ride in the Ocean or a Slooooow ride on the ICW.

Ron:
I haven't been thru the LEI this year yet....how were the markings and water depths on your trip last week?

dom
LE was remarked this summer by the coast guard and it is great. 15' of water all the way out and very easy to see the markers. my new favorite inlet!

Tim/Ryan;

What time are you guys leaving home port and what's your ETA at Schooner's on Sunday?

I'm planning a liesurely ride down on Friday.....leaving the home port mid morning and expecting to be in a slip my early afternoon. It'll be just me and Linda.....honeymoonin'!!!! Depending on the winds and seas, which look favorable, it should take me 4 1/2 - 5 hours of travel time slip-to-slip.

Dom-
We are shooting to depart our respective slips at 7:30 AM on Sunday and catching the favorable current in that horrific Delaware Bay. That would get us to Cape May in about 4.5 hours. It looks like another 30 minutes or so to the slip. Soooooo, ideally 12:30. So in reality, figure 2:00 with all the women and children involved. My MMSI (if you're into that sort of thing) is 338080855. Otherwise, we will be monitoring 16.

Let's hope Fay stays away:thumbsup::thumbsup::thumbsup:.

See you soon!

My 8 year old daughter and I are going to be there Friday thru Sunday morning this weekend. (Wife is taking our older daughter back to Univ of Pitt so it's just the two of us. The ever wise and cautious admiral has some 'concern' about just the two of us going on the run from great Egg Inlet down to Cape May inlet alone.) We'll be near the fuel dock with the smaller boats but look forward to meeting some of you this weekend.

Tim:

my MMSI # is 338022854....but I'll probably either be on the dock, on the dinghy or just hanging with the handheld.....I'll have it on CH 16 and 9....I'll PM you my cell just in case .....38022854

Yeah... you guys are so screwed... You believe Mr. Dumb-ass-weatherman? SE or E winds 5-10 knots while the bay has E winds at 15 knots... ok... let me know how that 14 knot 4 hour run down the Deleware Bay goes. There's no such thing at 5 knot winds... It'll be blowing at 20 knots.

Mr weather man says the winds are calm by my house right now.....I look out my back window and my flag is standing straight out with at least a 15knot NW blowing....

So Gary....you're still not ready for another short weekend trip yet? Or are you just a little 'concerned' about crossing the Man-ley Delaware

When Gary comes to Cape May, it will be via the even manlier Ocean...

Also, it is possible to have good weather on the Delaware Bay... here's my view from the bridge going down there last October:

Yes, I realize I just tempted the weather gods, I just wanted to show that it IS possible.

Gary's right... we're screwed.

Hey...I'm coming down via the Man-ley Atlantic......although I do have a few more 'sissy' way outs (inlets) along the coast than Gary has....but some of those inlets are 'Man-ley' also....

I'll deal with the Atlantic any day before Delaware Bay... They should call it "Wrecking Ball Bay" the way the waves are vertical and beat the snot out of you.

How fast were you going in those pictures Dom? Both times I went over that thing this summer I could only do 14-15 knots... Trawlers were passing me.

Tim - Tempting them right out here in the open... what are you thinking... oh well, I guess if nothing else works we can get Gary to sacrifice another limb or something, that should continue to appease them.

I don't remember exactly, but it was defintely less than 20knots....I'd say 18 or so....I was traveling with the 390DA Gasser (in the picture) and he couldn't keep on plane much less than that......not enough torque/wheel.....that pic was from when we were on the way to the BIH '07 gathering....

And one more thing....that pic was taken AFTER it calmed down enough for the admiral to gather enough composer to get the camera out and snap it....

Hmm... I never really thought of the staying on plane issue. One more advantage of diesels... If I remember right, my 380 would drop off plane around 16-17 knots... my 480 is more like 12 knots. Much better for crappy weather.

OK...I'm a day late, but we made it. Ran into all kinds of issues, including some homesite things that I needed to work out.

We're in C45.....and just got back from a delicious Italian dinner at Russo's.

We left the home dock at 8:30AM. On the way out of my development, I ran over a submerged day stick. When I went to back off of the stick, I ran over a mounded shoal of sand/muck. I got on plane, and ran for about 1/8 of a mile and the port motor was climbing towards 200def F. I came down from plane, and shut down the port motor, and had the admiral go in a circle....which was easy on just one motor.....while I went down into the ER. No water leaking anywhere...that's good....but I pull the strainer on the port motor and I've never seen so much mud in a strainier. It was like making a sand castle. I knew this wasn't going to be a quickie, so I came back up and set the anchor. About 45 minutes later, both strainers were squeaky clean and I confirmed good water flow and normal temps....180deg F. I go to pull up the anchor and somethings not right. I finally get the anchor to break water, and I've somehow managed to snag an errant, none marked/ line of crab pots....15 minutes later, I got the anchor secured and washed down and I'm on my way to Wildwood. I decide to stay in the ICW to LEI instead of going out of Barnegat inlet just to keep an eye on the temps a little longer. We hit the first no wake zone off of LBI and the Green heads are swarming.....we must have killed 200 green heads. As we're just about to get on plane south of Beach Haven Yacht club, I hear some poor soul calling Sea Tow...he ran aground at the infamous ICW 116....I thinking the way my luck is going, I better keep a good eye out in the area. We break the LEI and I set two waypoints on the plotter and engage the AP.....everything is going just great and I'm making 22 knots at 2285RPMs....Sweeeeet!

I get to my slip in Schooners and start to wash down and the admiral comes up to tell me that there is water all over the carpet by the galley sink......I look under the cabinet and the P-pipe came off while she was washing some fruit. I put that back together and get out my shop vac to dry out the rug....while I'm there, I figure I better check the sumps....sure enough, the aft sump is on the blink. I pull out my spare sump box...yes I have a spare sump....and wire in the new box....Rugs are drying and the new sump is working so I go back topside and finish washing the hull.

I just finished checking everything and everything is working.....again.

See you guys tomorrow morning..

Sounds like a hoot!

Ryan and I (and crews) are ready to roll. Weather looks good. We should see you at Schooners at ~ 1 PM.

Hopefully our trip is a tad less eventful!

See ya soon!
