CSR Gathering, Cape May Edition

Heck of a long walk into Cape May

Heck of a long walk into Cape May
Frank- it is a hike to town and to the beaches from the Canyon Club, that's why we were going to rent a car (they drop it off for you right at the marina).

I called Schooner Island this morning, they have up to three "big" slips for the time period. It is "in town" and is 7 blocks to the beach and they do have a pool. I could go either way on this!

Dom, CC claimed to have plenty of room when I called them... Ryan and I decided to get together over a few choice cocktails this weekend in RH (arggggggh--- Pirate Weekend) and decide which marina to go to. Soooooooooooo, you should keep your reservation at Schooners and if we decide to go there, we'll call and gobble up two of the three "big" slips. If we decide to stay at CC, you should have no problem making a reservation there.

Clear as mud? Good.

So much fun to have.... so little time.

We found a car was a pain in the *** the one time we were there during the summer with the car. There's no parking anywhere. So the last few times we either walked, took the shuttles, or called a taxi. We bought some paintings from one of the local galleries. Fun trying to get them back to the marina on the shuttle bus. Wonder where that photo is of two friends and myself waiting for the shuttle surrounded by framed paintings?

Best regards,
Frank

At CC last year, we worked out a deal with the dock hands. They drove us to the beach for a small tip. Then either came to get us or we called a cab. Renting a car would not be as easy.

Is there a decision in there somewhere.....:smt017...I'll go read it again ...

We will be at the Canyon Club this weekend, 8-9 and 8-10-2008.
We are beginning our 2 week Delmarva loop trip.

Sort of... it's a nice vague "hurry up and wait" thing.

I need to check with the rest of the crew I am travelling with to see if they want to do the four bell marina or the three (see Gary's blog entry if that doesn't make sense.)

If we decide to move to Schooners, you (Dom) are all set. If we decide to stay at Canyon Club, they have plenty of room and you'll be able to make a reservation to join us there if you choose. I promise a decision soon!

I'm leaning towards Schooner's but I am not the only decision-maker on this one!

I'm booked for Schooner's for Friday, Saturday and Sunday nights. Schooner's is $2.75 a foot....they said on the phone that Electric and CATV are included.

Comment: other than the lobster house, Staying at Schooner's has more within walking distance. At CC you would have to make travel arrangements to get into Cape May proper. You could take a cab from Schooner's to Cape May for the day.

Hey guys, I've kept my boat at schooners for the last 7 years and can answer any questions you might have about the marina and the area. We love the place. One of the things that hasn't been mentioned in this thread is that there are 5 restaurant/bars that have live entertainment that are located in the immediate area of the marina. Also about two blocks away is an Acme, CVS, and liquor store. What more could you want? We occasionally stay at South Jersey Marina in Cape May for the night just for something different. The walk into town from there is pretty far but it's a great town to spend the weekend in. I'll look for you guys when you get here. I'm on G dock. You'll probably be on C or E.

When we go into Cape May this weekend, any idea of sugestions as to the "must go to" places and see?
We are going to the Lobster House on Sat. night.
Thanks,
Lee

Cape May is a town of big old Victorian homes. There are tours you can take if that's your thing. There's also a town center full of little shops...you know, the kind where all the husbands stand outside the store holding the bags full of the stuff that the wifes just bought. Then there's 'sunset beach' where you can walk the shores and look for 'cape may diamonds'....shiney rocks on the beach....Every day at Sunset beach they fly the flag of a fallen veteran. At sunset, they play "Taps" and "God Bless America" as a local organization (girls scouts, boy scouts, VFW, etc) lower the flag, re-fold it and then hand it back to the family.....I did that with my father's flag.

All will require transportaion from the marina...taxi is probably your quickest.

Lee,

South Jersey Marina,

THE BEST , walking distance to Lobster House, and they will make the resverations....
$2.95 a Foot, and you"ll get spoiled,

Stayed there last week end

Lee, if you get stuck down town shopping with the women you should wait for them at The Ugly Mug and have a beer! If you want to have lunch near the marina area stop by the C-View Tavern and have some wings. Have a safe trip, Mark

Tim, Ryan, Todd-

Sounds like a great trip and normally I'd jump on this but we've got a couple of things scheduled Monday and Tuesday that we just can't re-arrange. Too bad, not too long ago, we were talking about getting to Cape May.

Re: CSR Gathering, WILDWOOD Edition

OK, it's official. Schooner Island it is.

Ryan along with Todd will becoming on Ryan's boat (52DB "Sea Drive). I'll be there on mine (44DB "Festivus"), and it sounds like Dom will be there as well on "One Sweet Day". Between us, we are equal parts Cummins, MAN and CAT, so there will be no sides taken on that issue. As far as the bridge/dancer discussion goes, that's open-and-shut since we all know Dom really wants a DB anyway!

Plus, it sounds like Searaymark will be there as well.

Anyone else

Festivus, Glad to hear your coming to Schooners I'm sure you'll have a good time. I know that the Canyon Club is a nice place but there's alot more action around Schooners. If you arrive early enough on Sunday I'll stop by and get you up to speed on the area. I'm usually there until about 4 or 5pm on Sundays. Mark

osd9 and Mark,
Thanks for your inputs, I will check them out.

We are excited, as this is the beginning of our 2 week Delmarva Loop trip.

Lee

We're thinking about going. Is everyone meeting there, or is there a spot in Baltimore or Norther Bay where we'll all follow each other down?

Mike-
We haven't worked out the details yet, but we'll work that out soon... did you call to see if they had a slip? When I last called, they said they had only two "big" slips and Ryan and I took two of them. Plus, you need a "really big" slip!
