CSR cruise to the bahamas?

Thanks Paul...This is the 2nd time in a month I've been sick with the same thing..Of course not resting and working 16 hours a day and then going up to NY where it turned cold (58) and rainy didn't help either.

Going to try to take it easy for a few days and see what happens...

Appreciate the advice and good thoughts.

Barry

Chad and Barry - I'm thinking positive and hoping that Barry's sore throat will get better by Friday. Do we want to exchange cell numbers before we leave? What channel do we want to monitor on the way over?

Randu

Hey Guys,

Woke up this morning and still feeling pretty bad.. :smt009

Not sure why the antibiotic isn't working , but I'm going to try to get into see the doc today and if I'm not on the right track by day's end I'm going to have to cancel and sit at my dock this weekend wishing I was there with you all.

I'll send a PM to you Randy with my cell just in case, and Chad, you have mine already.

Barry

Hey Guys ... My cell is 954-647-4411 and I generally like to use 69 as my working channel as it seems to draw less traffic and is a full power channel and for lazy reasons I'm already set for it in my radio!

My oil cooler fittings are still leaking ... I've taken the day off to go pull them and install new fittings. I might have to epoxy them in with JB Weld.

Barry - so sorry you can't make it, I hope you get better fast. You're friends are welcome to join us.

Chad - everything ok? Did you fix the leak?

Weather ...

Looks really great! Can't ask for a better crossing forcast!

We might hold up and cross Staurday morning, first light, if the NW winds are predicted to increase.

Thursday Night
Northeast winds 5 to 10 knots becoming west after midnight. Seas 2 to 3 feet subsiding to 2 feet or less after midnight. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Scattered showers and thunderstorms.

Friday
Northwest winds 5 to 10 knots. Seas 2 feet or less. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Isolated showers and thunderstorms. NW winds can heap up the stream and while not likely to make for a uncomfortable trip things can change suddenly on a local basis.

Friday Night
Southwest winds 5 to 10 knots. Seas 2 feet or less. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Scattered showers and thunderstorms.

Saturday
South winds 5 to 10 knots. Seas 2 feet or less. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Scattered showers and thunderstorms.

Saturday Night
South winds 5 to 10 knots. Seas 2 feet or less. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Scattered showers and thunderstorms.

Sunday
South winds 5 to 10 knots. Seas 2 feet or less. Intracoastal waters a light chop. Scattered showers and thunderstorms.

Sunday Night
South winds around 5 knots. Seas 2 feet or less. Intracoastal waters smooth. Isolated showers and thunderstorms.

Monday
Southwest winds around 5 knots. Seas 2 feet or less. Intracoastal waters smooth. Scattered showers and thunderstorms.

So the engine problem is fixed? Hope so.

We'll watch the forecast closely. At this time we're still thinking of leaving Friday early. The prediction is for very low winds so the stream shouldn't be up.

Randy

We are good to go ....

Sea trialed all the repair and refits in the I've undertaken surrounding the 600 Hour service on the 6C's. As you've read along the way in this thread I've been having a week long battle with the pipe threads on brass elbows coming out of the marine gear oil coolers. The fix ... High Density Teflon Tape. I never knew it existed. This stuff is maybe 10X thicker than typical stuff.

This tape is the bomb... and you ge tit a Home Depot and not the Cummins counter!

We're running behind on makeready so we'll leave at first light on Saturday and be tied up in Lucaya at 11:30 AM

Randy see ya there!

Randy & Chad,

Have a great time!!!! Wish I was going but hopefully I'll be able to rest this weekend and kick this thing...Toast one for me and email me with some photos when you get back.

Be Safe!

Barry

Randy, Chad,

OK, so I'm waiting to hear all about it....details & photos!!!

Welcome Back!

Barry

Update soon

Hey Barry, All back safe, engines ran fantastic! You missed idyllic seas so flat they were "oily". I'll get some more info up later this evening.

Randy, great to meet you and your fanstatic crew, My very best to Cathy for her most gracious hospitailty!

I'll post the pics I've got this evening. Now, off to work for me

I was in the bahamas but on the cruise ship as my boat is still out of comission. Should get it back this friday. I saw a very sexy sea ray at the atlantis...made me drool

Saga

I slipped the lines at my YC at 7:30 later than plan due to the admiral slapping the tar out of the alarm at 5:30 before I heard it.

I got to the boat and my guest had the canvas off, the engines warming up and the drinks on ice! man we had it made. We pushed off at 7:30 AM and headed to sea. The seas were well the flattest I'd ever seen them. "Oily" would be the best description fro the sea state, yet the wind was NW @ 5-8. We left the Port Everglades jetties in our wake at 2200 RPM and making 18.2 knots on a straight rhumbline course to Bell Channel on Grand Bahama Island and the home of the world famous Lucayan resorts.

We turned the helm over to "Otto" once the traffic thinned out and made a clean wake to the Bahamas. The boat rand perfectly and all the maintenance and a freshly scrubbed bottom let Asureyez make the best speed in her history with me. We were scoot'n!

The Admiral took in the UV on the sun bed while my guest Vic" and I talked Cummins engine stuff , navigation and "boat crap" as the admiral likes to call it. We were passed once on the way by anew SR the express with the totally enclosed bridge, a sports fishing looking rig ... it was making perhaps 1.5 knots better but the fuel burn wasn't worth a competition.

We laid Bell Channel Sea Buoy exactly at 12:15 fro a 87 nautical mile run in 4:45 for an avg of 18.3 knots. with some North bound help from the gulf stream.

We had trouble getting a slip assignment at Port of Lucaya Marina and were not able to get close to Odyssey as planned and it took until nearly 2:30 to get tied up and cleared of Bahamian formalities. I found Randy later and made introductions and began our holiday in paradise.

The admiral got a overdose of vitamin D on the way over so my mate and I did some prowling and then took in the pool until time fr dinner.

We missed Randy for a dinner hook up and we went to the Westin for steak and lobster. A great meal in a super environment!. Later we caught the free bands in the marina marketplace and then cooled off in the casino bar for the night. I won 0.25 in the video poker at the bar after over an hour of play! A lucky streak I was not to repeat later in the trip.

Sunday, we met up with Randy and made plans for a cocktails aboard Odyssey. Randy and crew went off snorkeling and we went to the Tiki bar on Sheraton's beach. We hung at their pool and bar all afternoon and really chilled. We were able to grab an empty slip across the dock from Odyssey and only had a two slip walk to Randy & Cathy's 45 EB. Cathy knocked our socks off with a tremendous spread of canapés and snacks and we all had a great time. We split off for dinner and my quest and I went on a hunt for the perfect lobster.

We met up with several of Randy's other friend sin the casino where I demonstrated by uncanny ability to turn $25 chips into $1 chips at the craps table! After a few cool down drinks I called it a night.

On Monday morning the marina was clearing out fast, but Vic and I went in search of the perfect Bahamian/Lucayan breakfast while my Admiral snoozed off a evening of frivolity.

We took on 120 gal of fuel for safety and left Lucaya at 12:30 PM and took a straight rhumb line course to Pt Everglades in super flat seas but heavy traffic both private yachts and commercial traffic. The boat ran superbly and we made Pt Everglades in 4:30 minutes running at 2200 RPM.

Club Sea Ray had to hearty & stalwart members in Lucaya, plus their hard working crews. I think a great time was had by all except my sunburned and battle damaged admiral who wished there was perhaps a few less opportunities to have fun!

My true thanks to Randy & Cathy and their son for helping make our Club Sea Ray Labor Day Bash a great time!

Pics of interest follow.
