Against all better judgement, I'm looking closely at a 04 Sun Sport with twin 350 mags. Anybody have experience with these boats and have a clue as to what speed to expect at top and cruising... and more importantly what GPH will likely look like?

Finally found an extremely clean freshwater with all options that I want... the significant other will likely kill me.

so will we if you defect....
.....like the Eagles "Hotel California" :

Watch out for the CSR Mafia:

You are talking about a SeaRay 290 Sun Sport, right????

That is one sweet boat. I keep looking at them, just not sure how easy it would be to tow it around. :smt017 Not ready to give up towing yet and don't want to have to purchase a new huge tow vehicle for it.
I've said it before and I'll say it again. Sure wish SeaRay would come back with their 240SS in the US with options like they have on the 290SS. Crownline makes a really nice one.

Very clean, 150 hours... price is a bit high but we are working on that. My 240SD still values out at about the same as I paid for it so not taking a bath on it.

The toilet vs porti-pottie is one tool in my arsenal of convincing. A/C... now I just have to ID a few places we could reasonably take it on overnighters to get her in the saddle. It will be 99% day boat.

She is "not 100%" against it... so I just need to get her to 49% against it and we'll likely have a deal.

We will see... twins so my fuel costs will sky rocket.

You will LUV this boat. I have the SLX and I also have the twin 350's, they do suck a ton of gas, especially if you run it hard. I've topped it out at 54.5 mph. Watched the gas gauge spin. It cruises really well (and efficiently) at around 38 mph.

I have a '97 280SS.

Same basic boat, except that I don't have those rear cockpit lockers. Don't have radar arch or A/C. Shorter bow rails.

Engines are twin 5.7LX with Alpha One drives.

With this configuration, I top out at 46MPH per GPS. Boat will jump onto plane at 3400rpm, and can remain at plane at 2800RPM/28mph. Boat will cruise comfortably at 3000-3200 rpm at 30-34mph.

Fuel consumption: Last year I averaged about 8gph, which I am told is more like single engine consumption rather than twin consumption. BUT. . I spend a fair amount of time at low RPM (either at night, or in slow no-wake zones).

As a DAY BOAT. . .good choice! Cockpit is roomier than a 30DA. You do lose the roomy cabin. . but you also lose the massive weight of the cabin -> so the boat will fly. Cockpit will hold 6-9 people comfortably. . and tubing/sking will be easy.

For overnights, you really can't have more than two in the cabin, and that will be cramped. Not sure what good the A/C will do. :) (you won't be down there much!)

For overnights. . .watch your gas capacity. Is the tank 125 gallons or so? At 12-16 gallons per hour. . do the math!!

Did someone mention towing?? You ain't towing this boat! It has a 9'6" beam. . .and will weigh in over 7,000lbs stock. The smaller crownline 255CR cuddy would even be on the big side for towing.

Thank you... The dealer gave me the worst case which was about 24 gph, but I think I'll probably be closer toward 16gph. We are still working out details so I'll see if this one becomes a reality. I'm pretty smitten with the boat though.

Slight addendum to my earlier post: Since my boat lacks the arch and the extended swim platform, the "nominal weight" is also lower. The 290SS weighs in over 8000lbs. My boat is nominally 6300 lbs.
