Of course, the week I decide to take a 300 mile boating trip, the cruise control function on my vesselview decides to bail. When I scroll to the cruise control screen it says "this option not available". What failed? Where do I look? How do I troubleshoot? I've grown accustomed to using it and I want it back. While I'm messing with it, Id like to add the generator (Kohler 5ECD) and my water and waste tank levels to the screen. If anyone can help, its you guys!!

Thanks for the quick response. Will this work for the gas vesselview? I want to be sure to retain all fuel tank calibrations.

I don't know if this is coincidence or not.

However, we were in a fishing tournament a few weeks back with our boat and I got the same message. I did not need the cruise control for fishing and my trolling feature was working. So I let it go and didn't worry about it.

The following weekend were to go cruising and I no longer had that message. So we went on a 26 mile cruise and spent the weekend at another port. While in said port I decided to check fluids. While down in the ER I found some slightly melted sensor wires. (There is a post in the gas engine area if you wish to see what I found on my 8.1's) So I fixed up the melted wires and have not had the message since. I too like the cruise control and use it regularly. Again, I don't know if the wires had anything to do with the cruise control message or not. I am typically in my ER every weekend so it is not like maintenance or lack of diligence was at play here.

Interesting. I did just replace a water pump and did some maintenance on the generator. Maybe I bumped something. I'll have to crawl around and check. It would help if I knew which wires were used for the cruise control function. Does anyone know that info?

I looked for loose or damages wired after work today but found nothing. The directions for the diesel vesselview didn't seem to apply either so I'm still without the cruise control function. Any other ideas?

What is this cruise control you speak of? Is it some variation of auto pilot with more?

Cruise control is a feature that comes with the DTS controls. It is used to set engine RPM digitally. So you set your RPM at a point where you want it and the computer keeps the RPM at that point. You can bump it up or down by 10 RPM at a time. Nothing to do with the auto pilot just engine RPM management. Very nice feature, especially in rougher water.

I have Cruise Control on my 390, but I'll be darned if I know what it does or be able to make it work. Anyone?

Gary, so what happens with your RPMs when you don't use your Cruise Control?

Never did get my cruise control working. Any new info out there or ideas on where to look next? Thanks!

Do you have Vesselview or Dieselview? If the former, grab a thumb drive and export your configuration settings to it. There is a USB slot on the back of the Vesselview display to do this....the exporting is done in the configuration settings menu. This will at least save the settings you have now, including tank configs and favorites, etc... So if the next step fails....you can at least get back what have set up now.

Next do a factory reset of VV and be sure that when it reboots, you ensure it has determined the correct power package of your boat during the setup screens and if not, force it to represent your power package by selecting it from the settings/config menu.

Have you considered having your local MerCruiser shop take a look at it? I'm sure they can figure it out or get technical assistance from above if they can't.

Tc410, I haven't taken it to a mercruiser shop just yet but if necessary, ill have to. I like to fix anything I can by myself, but if not, ill head to the pros.
