I literally "rescued" a 1985 SRV 250 from a slow, in-water death at a marina in Los Angeles Harbor populated with derelicts and future artificial reefs. This was one of those "Boat Angel" auction boats, mine for the bargain price of $169.16. Pretty rough shape, but intact enough to make it worthwhile. Currently on a trailer in my front yard. The clean-up and teardown is nearly complete. Now the real fun begins.

Good luck on your project. As one in the middle of project boat the same age my best advice is to 1. Call a marine surveyor and pay them to inspect the hull, deck, floor and stringers for soft spots....unless you know how to do this yourself 2. Double whatever you think its going to cost you to complete this project 3. Triple whatever time frame is you've given yourself to finish.

    Stick with it...

Close relative to my boat! It's a great boat and worth restoring, if it's reasonable. Time and $ wise.

Thanks for the welcome everyone! It's nice to have some affirmation when taking on projects like this. I've done it with derelict airplane and cars, but this is my first boat. I take on these apparently hopeless projects because I believe certain inanimate objects, particularly those whose purpose is for people to have fun, have a soul, and none should be left to die a slow, inglorious death.

Yes, once the hull has been completely stripped down, I'm taking it to a specialist to evaluate if it's sound enough before I spend any real money on it.

Now for my first question(s) to the group: Is it true what I heard about what happened to the Phoenix factory where this boat was built? And, do parts manuals for pre-1989 boats exist anywhere? I'm just beginning my search of this forum, but any help from you all would be appreciated.
