A few years ago, we were rafted, on the hook, in a bay that has a nice solid rock almost dead centre of the entrance (to the right of the pinned “A”) here…

It was happy hour on my bridge and we noticed a 40 something Taiwan trawler chugging in at maybe 2 or 3 knots, directly in line with the rock. Charted as “awash at chart datum,” we guessed to be about 3’ below the surface right then. As we waved frantically for them to stop, alter course or otherwise pay attention, we could hear a female voice over the stereo squeaking; “those folks are waving at us, do we know them?” Just as I told buddy to jump in the tender and I let go on the hailer, the bow of the trawler bounce, bounce, bounced up, listed to port, rocked upright and slid back, like panties offa handrail.
Before we could respond any further, she did a pirouette and retreated back down the track she came in on. A monitoring of the VHF over the next hour told us nothing of her fate. Lucky people, who I hope took up camping after that.
