This storm over the mid-atlantic is really bad. I've been up all night with the winds howling at times 40+ mph with gusts to over 50. Went out to the dock this morning (5 am) and the dock is underwater again (I believe the 100 year flood line is now an annual flood line) with a surge of about 5 feet. This is almost as bad as Ernesto.

AT 846 AM EDT...NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE DOPPLER RADAR CONTINUED TO
INDICATE A LINE OF SEVERE THUNDERSTORMS CAPABLE OF PRODUCING DAMAGING
WINDS IN EXCESS OF 60 MPH. THESE STORMS WERE LOCATED ALONG A LINE
EXTENDING FROM WARREN MILL TO WILLIAMSBURG AIRPORT...OR ALONG A LINE
EXTENDING FROM TOANO TO WILLIAMSBURG...MOVING NORTHWEST AT 30 MPH.

Gotta like this at the mouth of the bay:

TODAY
E WINDS 25 TO 30 KT...DECREASING TO 20 TO 25 KT WITH GUSTS TO
AROUND 30 KT LATE IN THE MORNING...THEN DECREASING TO 15 TO 20 KT EARLY
IN THE AFTERNOON...BECOMING NE 20 TO 25 KT LATE. SEAS 9 TO 11 FT...
SUBSIDING TO 7 TO 9 FT LATE. RAIN LIKELY. TIDES 2 TO 3 FEET ABOVE
NORMAL.

It doesn't sound good Gary. I hope you don't have any problems as the day progresses. Keep us posted.

NJ checking in...

Hey, I'm here in Ocean County (LBI area) and the tides are pretty crazy, but not as high as Ernesto (but believe me, not by a whole lot). Tonight is going to be fun, as you throw the full moon in there and all, and high tide where I am is about 11:30pm - we'll see!

Any more Jersey folks out there?

Well... I stayed on the boat all day and kept adjusting lines and the dock went under water again. Did you know that a gas grill can float? I was shocked by that... My grill is now somewhere at the bottom of the river.

I saw in the paper that 2 guys went out fishing in the height of the storm in a 17 foot boat. They died and washed up on shore yesterday.... Happens all the time here for some reason. They probably would have been fine if they had taken their gas grill with them.

I didn't save my grill but I did manage to save the white bucket I wash my boat with. I emptied it out at 5 am, left it's top exposed to the open sky and it was full of water (16") by noon. Also found and fixed a leaking window in my boat during the storm.

I'd believe almost anything!

Hope the gas grill wasn't a Magnum (those things are not cheap!). I'd believe almost anything about stuff floating--we were one of those crazy people who were on the Delaware River and the northern Chesapeake around the 4th of July after the bad flooding on the Delaware and Susquehanna. Man, the stuff that floated by us was unbelievable. But we took it slow, and cautious and (knock on serious wood) made it through with no mishaps. If you decide to head out (now that the rest of the weekend appears to be beautiful) be careful.
