Over the winter we bought 2002 280 DA from a freind who decided to move up to a new 320. This spring when we uncovered the shrinkwrap we discovered that the fiberglass was cracked on the aft end of the bottom of the arch right where the arch sits on the main hull. It almost looks like water was in the bottomm of the arch and froze.

At the time the boat was winterized, the previous owner was intending to keep it, and the process was handled by a very reputable boat yard. So we have ruled out improper storage.

Fixing it seems straight forward, but I would like to know if anyone else has had a similar experience, or has a better idea of the cause.

Thanks

the seam where the factory puts the arch together is bound to crack, they have a pretty good chance of cracking at some point.

double check to make sure the bolts holding it to the boat are tight as that can aid in the cracking.

Henry, I had the same thing appear at the end of the first season, before it went into storage. There were small cracks at the base of the arch like you described. The dealer repaired the area the following spring and so far it has been fine. Mine occured on the starboard side.
