My 'devil' comment wasn't meant literally. Just that if we don't agree with their opinions then we are horrible, stupid people. I'm sure you saw the comment earlier involving eating something out of a bag? That's the kind of attitude I'm talking about. Just seems like lately the lefties always think their opinion is fact and if you don't agree then you are the bad one. Not just from that posted but in general.
I see exactly the same attitude from the right. You all are so polarized. It’s not good guys. It’s not good.

For the record, I’ve considered myself to be a moderate Republican for most of my life. Certainly not “lefty”. Although in many things lately I seem to find both “sides” a bit bonkers. To me the current general rush to the left/right, and evaporation of middle and moderation to be problematic and disturbing.

I’m aware my views on the importance of vaccinations may seem to be at odds with the above. That view generally extends to folks that think long-proven vaccines for diseases like measles, mumps, and chicken pox have no value, or are some form of mind control.

I wasn’t allowed to say anything until today, but it's now okay for me to share that I volunteered for the Covid-19 vaccine from Pfizer. The vaccine is the one that has been developed in Russia. It is in 6 different stages and I received my first dose at 6:20 this morning and I wanted to let you know that it is totally safe and I’m ok, with иo side effects whatsoeveя, and that I feelshκι я чувю себя немного стрно и я думю, что вытл осные уши. чувству себя немго страо. Comrades.

But the question wasn't geared towards other vaccines, just covid.

Not mind control at all. I have no issues getting vaccines that are proven and have been around, it's the one that has been rushed through (although for legitimate reasons). I would rather wait for awhile to see if any longer term side effects arise. After I'm comfortable with it being safe I have no problem getting it. Those in the highest risk categories may are in a different situation. It may make sense for them to be first in line. If I was in a really bad situation then I would get it right away.

Agreed. Keep in mind, this is the first mRNA vaccine. What will the effects be in 2, 5 or 10 years? I'll pass, thanks.

And I'm far from an anti-vaxxer. Big difference in the polio or measles vaccine compared to the covid vaccine...

I've been through Covid as well as my wife luckily a very mild version but you don't want anything to do with it. Here's the thing we were careful and I still came up sick. We were able to keep it in the house my parents in their late 80's dodged a bullet my Daughter who's going to have their second child didn't get sick from me either. Here's the thing you don't know when your spreading it because I felt fine until I lost my smell and my work caught that. Lose of smell was only 2 days I wouldn't have noticed. Never felt worse then a cold tested positive. Thing is you might be lucky like me and my wife but will another love one be so lucky. You don't want to feel like I did being responsible for someone else's health it sucks. I for one will roll my sleeve up and take the shots don't want to ever feel scared for my love ones.

I just saw a report yesterday saying getting the vaccine will not stop a person from carrying and spreading it. Can't remember where I saw it or who it was but it was on TV.

I've read that as well. Really makes me want to go and get it!

So it must be true.

I think you have to determine what they mean by "spreading" it. Remember the days when they said it would live for days or whatever on different surfaces. Sure, but it wasn't infectious. Now they say surface transmission isn't even a big risk. Since the vaccine won't let it multiply in your body, the chances of you spreading infectious levels of the virus seem slim.

That's the thing. Proven vaccines with 20+ years of history vs. a new technology. Now the technology isn't "new" per se, they have been experimenting with it with cancer patients. it's an odds play -- risk of the virus vs the vaccine. I don't think we'll see a bunch of long term issues -- it's just a different way of activating your immune system.

No idea if it is true and a good chance nobody knows that for sure but apparently some medical professionals hold that opinion so it is a possibility. Now if it were on Facebook then we would know it would be true...lol

As others have said....you don't know for sure that the vaccine will stop the spread, you're hoping. In reading your posts you seem to be an Alarmist and a chronic Worrier. I have a friend here that is a Worrier too and we haven't seen him since January. Here, where I live, we wear a mask in stores, mostly; in restaurants and bars when we walk in but off to eat and drink; we sit at the bar, we have get togethers and ya know what? Nobody in our group has been very sick or died. Memorial Day and Labor Day weekends we had pool parties at our home with 15-20 people....nobody got sick or died. We had 12 here in the house for Thanksgiving....nobody got sick or died. My daughter and 5 of her friends flew here from LA in October to celebrate her 30th birthday in the French Quarter....nobody got sick or died. And interestingly the mayor of New Orleans decreed that if you are outside on the streets in the French Quarter you were required to wear a mask or face a $500 fine. My daughter sent me a picture of Bourbon Street that day with 25-40 people in the picture and no one was wearing a mask....no one. Nobody in my daughter's group got sick or died.

Whether or not you and your family get the vaccine is your personal choice....you've analyzed the data and formed an opinion....your opinion. Others have done the same and have formed their own opinion and do not share yours. For you to shame those that don't share your opinions or views and call them names is absurd and abusive.

I hope the vaccines work....I truly do so we can move on from this asterisk in history. And when it does you are welcome to tell us all, "I told you so."

Not sure what point your trying to make about no one got sick or died.
As do this morning, 14,724,057 positive cases, 284,528 deaths.
So if it doesn’t happen to anyone in your family, the virus doesn’t exist?
Luckily, no one in my family has gotten sick or died, but I’ve had customers/work associates get sick and die.
My wife is a COVID nurse and sees someone getting sick and die every day. Thank god she’s going to be one of those first in line for the vaccine. As for me, I’m immune compromised and do my part to help slow the spread by social distancing and mask wearing. And as soon as I can, I’ll be getting the vaccine. A little discomfort far outweighs the possibility of contracting COVID-19, whether I’m a symptomatic or get sick and die.

I would not put you in the "anti-vaxxer" group then. You are not against vaccines, you are just skeptical about maybe the level of testing of this one? That is what Harris was saying, and that is what many people are saying, both republican and democrat. Its not about "if", its about "when". And Harris was obviously just being political at the time. Her comment, in context, was that Trump was trying to rush a vaccine in and shorten the testing/approval. She did not trust his process, so would not take a vaccine that he had pushed through. So like you, she is not an anti-vaxxer either.

COVID is more dangerous than the flu. I have never gotten a flu vaccine. I am not worried about dying from the flu. I am not worried about dying from COVID either. I am 57 and healthy and fit. But I have an 80yo mother that we spend a lot of time more time with since my father passed away last year. She gets the flu vaccine. My wife has MS. Its an immune disease and when she gets sick, her MS flares as well. She gets the flu vaccine each year. I probably should for both of them and may start this year. And I will absolutely get a COVID vaccine as soon as can get one. I will do it for them, and for the others in our world that may not be as lucky as I am with being healthy.

I do think that there will be a natural "herd immunity factor" that will help end this. If herd immunity was not real, any one of the plagues in the pre-vax years would have wiped out the entire population in infected areas. Even when millions died, not everyone died.

But this is not the middle ages. We have vaccines and should use them to minimize the number of deaths before we hit that herd level needed to really knock this thing down. Fewer deaths cannot be a bad thing. 1,500,000 deaths worldwide so far. Over 250,000 in the US. Current run rate somewhere between 2,500 and 3,000 every single day.
Excellent point..”I will do it for them”.

Aren’t we all Americans with our own views? It used to be ok to have differing opinions and still get along. Now it’s all about insults and hatred towards one another. I have a friend in NJ who’s a republican(and that’s ok!), but now won’t listen to his favorite singer, Bruce Springsteen because he’s a liberal, which I think is absolutely ludicrous.
Now it’s all about I’m a liberal and all conservatives suck, or I’m a conservative and all liberals suck.
As far as you using the term lefties, then you must be a righty. Sounds like we’re in a Twix commercial!

I wonder if people treated Jonas Salk the same way.

Salk was treated as a hero. I was there.

Here's the thing. The leftist/liberals and what not argue emotion. That leads to shaming people. Look at you're post 95 -- "I'll do it for them." That implies that anyone who chooses not to get the vaccine for whatever reason doesn't care about "them" and is somehow heartless. There are several posts in this thread with that theme.

I liked creek woods comment, that’s all. Not trying to shame anyone at all.
But, there’s been plenty of shaming on both sides for quite sometime now.
I’ve read on this forum plenty of times the term, leftie, libtard, and others. But that shaming is ok? There is plenty of posts with that theme. If those of you on the right are implying the folks on the left in this post are shaming, them, the folks on the right need to take a good look in the mirror.
