My wife got the first shot Friday, I am also hoping her second dose is available.

Why would second dose not be available?......I watch very little propaganda TV so must have missed something.

The Trump administration was holding back doses so second doses would be available. Hidin' Biden is planning on sending every available dose out for first doses on January 21st. Even to states (like New York and California) that aren't even close to administering 50% of their original allocation of vaccine due to incompetent governors...I mean unforeseeable roadblocks. Since there is a shelf life to the vaccines (some states, see above, have reportedly had to dispose some of their original allocations that were beyond their expiration date) there is a concern that the companies won't be able to keep up.

With the Pfizer vaccine, the second does HAS to be administered within a time window from when the first dose was given. Exhausting supplies to give everyone a first does at the expense of a second does is not following the science. It would be akin to cutting helmets in half to sort of protect more poeple because there are not enough helmets to go around. It doesn't make any sense, but I think sense left town back in November.

Using all your vaccine at once is like drinking all your whiskey in one night on a boat trip in a remote area. The small store you find may be out and all you will have is memory of what you had rather than another night sitting looking at a wonderful sun set. Or it is like not conserving ammunition in a fire fight. Canada has a liberal government and they want to use it all at once. The General who was placed in charge want to keep half back. It was never tested as a single dose so no one knows if it will do any good.

This is being done by people who know zero about logistics. The way this vaccine works is your demand increases by new shots plus the demand four weeks before. If you release it all, you have nothing for the increase especially in the event your production lines have a hiccup.

My wife and daughter who both work in health care got the first dose this past Friday..... let’s hope the second shot is still around ...I am getting skeptical with what Biden is talking about
My cancer doctor told me last week I might be March
In IL, we are being put in category 1b, which starts when the 1a's are complete. Should be another 3-4 weeks or so. Light at the end of the tunnel.

I call Bull$hit. How many people take insulin (or any other life supporting drug) everyday without a thought of where the next prescription comes from? Some may worry if they can pay for it, but not if it will be available.

COVID vaccine is not likely to be a one and done production run. Right now the focus has to be needles in as many arms as possible as fast as possible. In any event, reserving a time sensitive medication for a month creates its own inventory problems if enough people go elsewhere for their second dose.

Who made you inventory and production Czar?... you have no idea what would happen if supply was exhausted today

"President-elect Joe Biden said Friday that he favors releasing nearly all available coronavirus vaccines right away, rather than holding back doses to ensure enough for people to get the required second shots.

It is the incoming president’s first signal about how he plans to change the protocol the Trump administration is using in an unprecedented mass vaccination campaign that began mere weeks ago.

“The president-elect believes we must accelerate distribution of the vaccine while continuing to ensure the Americans who need it most get it as soon as possible,” a Biden transition spokesman, T.J. Ducklo, said in a statement. “He believes the government should stop holding back vaccine supply so we can get more shots in Americans’ arms now.”"

No one ever said anything about a 1 and done production run. It really is just a math problem. If you could produce 1 Million doses a day and let's just assume for the sake of argument that you can administer 1 million doses a day too. After approximately 20 days worth of doses having been administered, you have to stop giving the vaccine to "new" people so that the first people can get their second dose. Of course this assumes the production is constant and that there are no production interruptions. Said another way, shots in the arm for the first 20 days should be 1/2 of production capability. After that, it really isn't an arguement anymore.

The science shows that Pfizer vaccine is 95% effective with a two dose regimine.

The science shows that Pfizer vaccine is 52% effective with a one dose regimine.

Draw your own conclusions how you would like it administered. This thread is becoming, well, like Twitter.

Here we goo_O, after bitchin', pissing and moaning that Trump doesn't follow the science, WTF

FDA says stick to the vaccine plan on two-dose regimen
WHO recommends 2 doses of Pfizer COVID-19 vaccine within 21-28 days

That is classic form over substance. You see, more shots, less lines, = less media "outrage." Even though 4 weeks later, when shots are in short supply and people need their second dose all hell breaks loose.

I am shocked...maybe Cuomo is still working on those 80,000 respirators. He was going to personally drive a semi across the country to pick them up if he had to.....or, maybe he figures because he let all the elderly die already the first round of shots ain't needed. Ya, I'll bet....he's pretty sharp you know.

No idea if the supply was exhausted? I take anti rejection drugs on a daily basis and will do so for the rest of my life to maintain the health of my transplanted liver. I am well aware of the consequences of a delayed prescription. In my case it’s fatal, as for a COVID vaccination it’s partial protection vs full.

I am by no means the czar of anything. But I do know stupid when I hear, or read it. And stupid is thinking the pharmaceutical supply chain and COVID vaccine supply would magically stop just because Biden becomes President.

Phizer already had component supply issues in the fall that slowed production and set back first delivery volume a little. Not necessarily because of that but they have already warned they may not hit 2nd quarter numbers. The hope is Moderna will be able to fill the gap. Remember the whole world is after a hand full of vaccines, some of them share components.

No but demand can outstrip supply. And if you empty the coffers to meet today's demand, you wont have anything left for the second shot. It's a stupid move.
