You would think trials would have given a better picture of effectiveness
It's a factor of how long vaccines have been in the trial subject's arms, which is only 3-4 months as of now. The subjects are still being followed so the duration of effectiveness will continue to be measured. I understand the big question is whether it lasts for only several months so that annual boosters will be needed. There's some speculation that it may be several years, once again only time will tell.
The bigger hindsight issue is whether just one dose would have worked. Looks like it might but the trials weren't set up for that. If they had and it worked then double the numbers could be getting shots right now.

You're assuming that what's being reported is true. I stopped making that assumption a long time ago. Now the VA is calling the police if you refuse to wear a mask to get into the hospital. Under ADA right of medical exemption or not.
Anyone who thinks there aren't ulterior motives to all this is a fool. How do you like the implication of this sign in front of the Richmond VA? The "real" heroes aren't the patients at the VA apparently.

As a father of two nurses who work with Covid patients on a daily basis and one of them that just returned to work after beating covid herself.... I would agree with the sign..... there is more then one kind of hero out there

I've been an emt, federal law enforcement officer and a firefighter over the years in addition to being a Sergeant of Marines. I still work for an alphabet soup agency. My point wasn't to discount the support staff contribution. To put the word "real" in there is a slap in the face to vets that see it on the front of our hospital.

Everybody’s a hero nowadays. It’s the adult version of every kid gets a trophy. Gimme a friggin break. How about do your job because it’s your damn job. No hero bullshyte. Geezus.

Only heroes I knew are still in ‘Nam.
Exactly right.

I'm late to the party but I'll give my personal experience. Back in February 2020 I came down with the "flu". I left work early on Friday afternoon, was in bed Friday night, all day Saturday, and all day Sunday. By Monday morning I felt fine and went to work.

In October 2020 I was tested for COVID-19 antibodies. The test came back positive. The only symptoms I had were in February 2020. The "flu" I had in February also felt slightly different than past flu symptoms I had. All of the data is consistent with me having COVID-19 in February 2020.

My wife slept next to me the whole time I had the "flu" (COVID-19). She never had any symptoms but was tested in October 2020 for COVID-19 antibodies to see if she had it. The results came back negative. Many of my co-workers also were tested for COVID-19 antibodies. Their results also came back negative. My experience with COVID-19 is that it is not very contagious.

My wife is planning on getting the Pfizer or Moderna vaccine when it's available. We have our doubts about the Astra Zeneca vaccine. Since I have COVID-19 antibodies I will probably wait for now for two reasons. First, people without COVID-19 antibodies have a greater need for the vaccine than I do. Second, it is still unknown if lifetime immunity is conferred from having COVID-19. If I already have lifetime immunity then there is no reason for me to get the vaccine.

It seems to me that for a very small number of people the COVID-19 virus is debilitating and/or deadly. At this point in time we do not know what differentiates these people from the rest of the population. Determining what this difference is would contribute greatly to irradicating the virus.

You are free to take any vaccine you wish. Keep in mind “eradication” means zero virus permanently and that has never happened inspite of all the vaccines given worldwide. Even smallpox cases aren’t at zero.

Actually they do. There are studies showing high correlation with certain genetics having to do with the immune system. Why they aren’t using this info to protect people is criminal.

Genomics was becoming the standard in determining care pathways. For example, if two patients had the same cancer at the same stage traditionally they received similar therapeutic regimens. Genomics then changed all that. Your genetics can determine one course of action to be far more effective treatment than another patient who has the same cancer.

With regard to immunity and COVID, it is no different, nor new. We’ve always known which populations are predisposed to infectious disease, auto-immune disease, diabetes, heart disease etc.

If they blurt out the predisposition of a population in post COVID world, it would create havoc, chaos, panic, and ultimately lawsuits from scores of sheeple pounding the table demanding they be first to receive their shots.

So for now you’re only allowed to know people who are already sick and elderly are high risk. A bit obvious to those who think for themselves but remains a revelation to the masses.

2010 - heart attack; 2020 - cancer; 68 yo; oh hell sh!t fk dam no! Gonna pump some Trump administration approved drugs in me? Are you fkn nuts!!!
Without question, Trump personally devised and developed the vaccine to kill people like you. What a fkn genius. Thank god for Joe, Kamala and Nancy. Along with Jackoff Dorsey and Mark Fuckerberg, they are our saviors. Joe will be the most unifying president since Barak ("you didn' build dat, someone else built dat", "I have a phone and a pen", "really, I wasn't born in Nigeria") Hussein Obama. i feel the warm and fuzzies already.

Anybody want to start a pool on when this thread heads to the holding tank? Or dumpster?

Admiral got her second dose of Pfizer vaccine today. So far so good.
My wife and daughter who both work in health care got the first dose this past Friday..... let’s hope the second shot is still around ...I am getting skeptical with what Biden is talking about
My cancer doctor told me last week I might be March
