This stall of the second round of support is beyond ridiculous. You have Bernie on CNN admitting they blocked relief before the election... Now Pelosi is rejecting a bipartisan smaller package. Small business needs help... government has shut them down and offers nothing.... I just cant believe we are here....another question is why doesn't Trump executive order PPP ?

The White House proposal trades off larger unemployment benefits for stimulus checks for everyone below a certain income level. Seems to me that targeting the funding to those who need it makes more sense than doing a peanut butter spread that would mostly go to individuals who don't need it (see "economic rent"). The proposal is also coming at the last minute when it looked like something might actually happen so not helpful in that regard.
In my opinion, none of the parties to this debacle have anything to be proud of, at least not yet.

They don't want people sitting on unemployment forever. It's been difficult re-hiring people because they where making more on unemployment. Maybe, give the extra unemployment to restaurant workers and the like who will be suffering for some time as the industry is in shambles.

The also need to fix the deductability of PPP loan expenses. My business that can't afford it are going to be hit with significant tax liabilities. The other issue is liability protection for businesses -- face it, the Democrats hate business. Pelosi and her ilk are a bunch of scumbags if you ask me.

I like this guy!
Ditto! Pelosi needs to be held to account for her admitted motivation to stall on passing a stimulus bill. How the Dems can sit there and let that silly bitch continue to steer their ship is just beyond me! A bunch of dick-less wonders everyone of them!
Personally I have nothing to gain either way and would rather no further stimulus be discussed. Instead I would prefer that local governments just get the hell out of the way and let the economy recover on its own accord. Had it not been for draconian measures of shut downs and this ridiculous $600 a week welfare program that was grossly mismanaged by just about every jurisdiction, the economy likely would have never tanked like it did. America thrives when government stays out of the way.

So what is everyone doing with their $600 ?

Nothing like going a trillion more in debt (although I hear now Pelosi is cramming in a 5.5k page bill to be read and voted on in 6 hours) for a whopping $600. She called Trumps $2500 tax cuts crumbs, and now is claiming $600 a huge success.... I guess the difference is, in order to realize Trumps tax plan, you actually had to be employed during record unemployment numbers he held during his first term.

Republican Congressman Doug Lamborn from Colorado issued the following statement:

“I was pleased to vote in favor of the first part of this package which included a 3% pay raise for our troops, provides $1.375 billion in border wall funding, and fully funds our nation’s law enforcement. However, I voted against the second part of this package, which increases non-defense spending by $12.5 billion dollars over the budget caps.
This legislation included many unrelated provisions such as
$23.9 billion-dollars for green new deal loan guarantees,
$10 billion dollars to bail out the USPS,
$180 million increase for the EPA,
$40 million dollars for the Kennedy Center, and
$10 million for gender programs in Pakistan.
This legislation lays the groundwork for a “Climate Security Advisory Council” and contains COVID19 relief which is overly broad. For example, this legislation includes a $300 weekly federal supplemental unemployment benefit that will unfortunately make one half of Americans receive more by staying home than if they went back to their jobs. It also provides a $600 stimulus check to all Americans whether they are employed or not. The $600-dollar stimulus checks should be targeted, and falls short of focusing support on those who need it most, individuals who have lost their jobs and are suffering from state-mandated lockdowns. This is a not a way to effectively legislate. This omnibus is the longest bill in history, numbering 5593 pages, and the second largest spending bill. To make matters worse, the full text of this bill was not released until hours before Members were expected to vote on its content. In the future, we must allow Members of Congress to engage in negotiation and debate, not craft legislation in secret behind closed doors in the 11th hour, just days before Christmas. This year the process failed. Moving forward we must do better.”

-Congressman Lamborn

plus
$193M so federal HIV/AIDS workers overseas can buy new cars
Funds to investigate 1908 Springfield race riot
Create Horse racing committee to regulate performance enhancing drugs in horses
and many more

6,000 pages voted on in 6 hours.... just disgusting !

“So I’m going to vote for it anyway, I’m just letting you know I’m unhappy with it”

More Covid Relief Bill additions - How do these things even come up?

The bill repeals nine criminal laws that are rarely, if ever, enforced.

People who transport water hyacinths, alligator grass or water chestnut plants across state lines no longer face up to six months in prison.

Likewise, individuals who fraudulently use emblems such as the U.S. Forest Service's "Smokey Bear" and "Woodsy Owl," the Golden Eagle insignia and the Swiss Confederation's coat of arms no longer face jail time.

No truer words have ever been spoken. The Republican party should be ashamed of itself.

Senator Paul: Stop Piling Debt on Future Generations, Open the Economy, and Cut Waste in the Budget

I couldn't agree more that both sides are incompetent. My point was just that Republicans seem to have rolled over the past many years and do not defend conservatism the way they once did. Continually printing money is not the answer. I pity my grandchildren.

I take that back ...Rand didn’t vote for the relief pkg.

The six GOP senators who voted against the bill were Marsha Blackburn of Tennessee, Ted Cruz of Texas, Rand Paul of Kentucky, Rick Scott of Florida, Mike Lee of Utah and Ron Johnson of Wisconsin.

Rand voted against it........can't believe only 6 voted against it though.... we've been played. Go along to get along. Same as it ever was.:(

We don't have a thing to worry about....Nancy cares about her 'workers', she prays for them, and now some will get $600 too. In addition to that, the relief bill will create a Commission to teach them not to store their gas cans next to their campfire. The 'workers' will be sooooo happy.

While I agree neither side has distinguished itself, the addition of stimulus checks at the expense of unemployment was mostly a White House/Senate initiative. So lots of people who don't need it will get a small check and then unemployment will run out again in just a few weeks.
Deductibility of PPP seems to have made it into the final. Also, permanent deductibility of business meals, apparently a pet rock of President Trump, is in. As a business owner, both make my wallet happy, but I'm not sure either are the best use of scarce resources.
