Anyone have an idea what it might cost to add a windlass to a 2006 290 sun sport? Looking at this boat but it lacks this option despite having the switch for it. No idea if it has the wiring harness. What kind of windlass would be used?

I installed mine for $2000,00 doing it myself.
I had a fiberglass shop plug the hole that was there for the manual reeling in of the original rode because it was off center of where it needed to be for the windlass. That was $1000.00.
I then bought a Lewmar v700 (I believe) and the rode for it and that was another $1000.00.
I did the install myself, and had to fish wires from the batteries to the bow.
That could get expensive if you have to pay someone.
I just saw it is a sunsport, mine is a sundancer, not sure about that one.

I agree to plan $2k. Budget for windlass, cables, foot or fore switches, helm switch (the one in windlass pack may not work in your final configuration), breakers, and rode (in this application you likely will need the more compact falling 8 plait line rather than 3 strand line, and of course it costs more).

Install would run $2500-$3000 at reasonable shops.

I bought the braided line, and it is more expensive.

Yikes. You guys are scaring me. I assumed I would be less than a $1,000. Cost of a Lewmar is about $700 and maybe new chain and rode. I'm hopeful it is prewired since it has the switch and obviously its designed to have it since it was an option. I would like to think i can install myself. Will know sunday.

That's pretty much the same as what I did, except I had the old hole patched and then drilled out where I needed to.
Probably not what everyone would do, but I wanted to start fresh.
My windlass was $700.00 and the rode was $300.00.

I have often posted on this question and most did not have the cables, though some had switches. In most cases this is a pair of battery cable size copper wires that run the length of the vessel. That is not a minor purchase, I had nearly $350 in my install and was the biggest additional cost.

Will you want switches at the bow? I did, that does not come with the windlass and you may need a controller box to merge the helm and bow switches. Plan $200.

Do you have the bow rollers or anchor that will work with the windlass?

Just better to figure it out in your head than after you buy some expensive pieces and then have to buy several more unplanned.
