Looked at a mid-80's Sea Ray over the weekend. It had a remarkably clean bilge; I accidentally dropped my sunglasses in a bit of rainwater close to the transom, and the lenses were not oily when I cleaned them.
Despite the clean bilge, the rudder posts were both heavily corroded, with rust stains on the surrounding gel coat.
Seems to me to be a long-standing but slow leak in the packing of the rudder posts. Think it can be repaired without actually having to replace them ?
