This is my first post.
Great site I've learned alot. Thanks everyone,
The voltage guages for my 8.1's generally read a constant 14 volts at idle and under higher rpm. I noticed that the starbord guage has been reading 14 volts at high rpm and falls back to 12 volts at idle. The port engine continues to read 14 volts. Is this normal or could it be a sign of a failing alternator or battery?

Hey Frank,

List you boat information in your signature so we all know what boat we are talking about.

Generally you can check this with a good meter at your battery. Take a reading before you start, should read around 12vdc. Once you start your engine, take it up to around 1K rpms and take another reading. If your battery is fully charged it should read12-13VDC. If your battery is a little low 13-15VDC. Once the battery is charges, then the voltage regulator will kick it back down.

Compare to your dash gage.

That should get you started.

There are those here that may know much more.

BTW Welcome
