Hi there

I am looking to replace my current anchor with something a little lighter. The recommended anchor is a Fortress FX and particularly the smallest one (FX7). It weights 4lbs - 1.8kg) and is supposed to be equivalent to a steel anchor of about twice that weight. I was thinking of this plus about 5 metres of chain (6mm or 8mm) and then rope (10mm or 12mm). Typically in 3m-10m of water. This anchor is recommended for boats up to 28 feet or so. Seems very light - does anyone have experience of this. Currently have a much heavier steel danforth - has to be at least 15lbs/10kg and maybe 10m of chain. It is not an easy lift!

If anyone has experience of the Fortress, would be interested to hear.

Best

The change to a Fortress FX7 in my 21' boat was a nice upgrade. This anchor deploys and sets better than any other anchor I've tried over the years. It's a little big for my anchor locker however it will fit. I use it with 5 feet of 5/8 PVC coated anchor chain and 150' of 3/8" gold braid anchor line. Depending on what lake I am in the bottom can be mud, muck, gravel or sand. It sets well in all conditions. I would recommend this anchor. Did I mention it was light weight and easy to retrieve?

30 years only Fortress. I think the 7 is a little small. Always used an 11 on 25 - 26. You can’t go wrong with going one size up. That said, if it’s a day boat a 7 is fine, if overnighting I want a bigger anchor when sleeping.
