has anyone had any problems with balsa coring rotting under the waterline? i have a 40 ft 1996 sedan bridge and have been reading up on the thoughts of marine surveyor david pascoe and he has some problematic issues with cored hulls. thanks for any input!

Click on the "home" button and page down a bit. There's a very informative article about coring.

Someone will post a link to the 400DB that was widely publicized 12-15 years ago. But all that damage started in the deck and affected the deck house and side decks.

Sea Ray usually leaves a solid pad in the bottom of cored boats for mounting intakes, transducers speed wheels, etc. As long as your boat has never had any physical damage that penetrated the core and no one has added a transducer, thru-hull somewhere other than where Sea Ray planned for them, the risks of core problems is very very low.

BTW, I wrote the article that Dennis mentioned. On that particular boat, the owner replaced a hull vent himself and didn't bother to bed the new one with silicone........and ended up with a mess. But, the dealer repaired the boat and it has passed 2 surveys since the repair was done.
