Okay, so I am a bay boater. I venture to the Gulf every so often.

Not that I am planning a trip across the Atlantic, but I was wondering if anyone knows that the average conditions are.
I have always been intrigued by ships crossing the Atlantic, from all periods of time.

Anyone know what it's like out there?
Average waves, conditions?
How about the Gulf Stream?

Just wondering... Thanks!

i must admit i have never been there but from all what i have heared the north atlantic is especally in the winter months a lovely place to be on , with calm seas and bright blue skies - a piece of cake for your sundancer .

I'll give him the benefit of the doubt that he's riding on the Queen Mary II.

Maybe this will help:

I've crossed the Atlantic twice and although the experiences were extremely exciting at times, I wouldn't exactly call either of the trips a "piece of cake". Anyone in command of a vessel that is expected to cross an ocean needs in depth experience. Such experience can only be obtained by crewing on boats with experienced people on board. The experience in the various crew members won't really be all that obvious until the $hit hits the fan, usually out in the middle of nowhere. And believe me,,,,,,, The $hit WILL hit the fan eventually on every crossing. And this is when the routine and sometimes seemingly anal practices of the crew turn into lifesaving maneuvering skills.

Ha!
As I said, I have NO plans on doing it. ESPECIALLY in my sundancer.
I was merely inquiring about what the conditions are actually like from someone who has experienced it first hand.

I did it in my dinghy.

I once did it with inflatable armbands, well actually only one as the other got a puncture. The sky was a bright blue though so everything was okey dokey.

I often cross the Atlantic, all part of the job.....

Though usually it's at a pretty good pace.....

I had this inflatable ball, that I climbed inside, with some sunscreen, a bottle of water, and a chocolate bar. No problem for a week or so, blue skies, Dolphins keeping me company.

Then a couple of small swells, and my EPIRB accidentally went off......

I had assumed we have just experienced some Deutsch Witz.

well,i was the first to realize the whole thread is on the funny side

of course not a single sea ray model comes even close in seaworthiness to think about a CROSSING of north atlantic in WINTER.
