Computor virus?

I told my daughter when she got her new computor to make sure she keeps her virus program up to date...But...she forgot.
Does anyone know of a free scan to find out if she does have a virus? and is there any free protection worthwhile?

AVG is used by a lot of folks and is free.

AVG is probably the most popular free application for scanning but as with most freeware, beware of the default settings for constant scanning & updates.

Just as a side note.. I've said for the last 20 years that the word "virus" is way overused. Be sure to clean the machine up before entering the wonderful world (sarcasm) of free virus scans.

Thanks everyone..Turns out she had both an old AVG as well as running Mcafee. I think the 2 are clogging up her machine. AVG is hard to remove!
