Compression test On 08 mag 350 dts

Stephen, did you unplug the wire between the coil and distributor cap or did you disconnect the coil from the wiring harness all together?
The latter---I disconnected the two harness connectors going to the coil module as I had read that the coil could be damaged when run without spark having a path to ground.

Thanks for all your help. Did you have to have the key on to get power to your switch? If so, did any fault codes get thrown?

From memory, I think I did need the key on—but not certain. I think I recall trying without key on and then realizing it needed to be on when my switch didn’t crank the engine over.

There were no visible codes set but I didn’t have a chance to scan it with the Rinda Diacom software post-compression test to verify (boat was hit by a distracted driver 2 days after my test, still in insurance limbo).

Attach this to your slave or starter solenoid and you won't have to activate the starting system on your engine. Works with the key in the off position.
No way to get to the starter solenoid

I ended up using the remote test switch directly from battery to term 87 on start relay plug. Worked perfect. Didn’t have to turn keys on
