1 of my bunks on my 180's Shorelandr trailer is starting to break and needs replaced so I am gonna go ahead and do them both. My question is they appear to be 2x6's about 8 feet long with about a 6 foot or over span between the brackets would the new Composite Lumber work for this? If so I don't think I would ever have to replace anything but the carpet ever again. Thanks

I would think composite lumber would be too flimsy and not provide the needed rigidity.

Thanks Quint, that was what I was thinking also even with a composite 2x6 and that is what I was also reading over on Iboats

I agree, composite would be too flimsy. You can space deck floor joists 24 inches for wood, but require 16 inches for composite. When I installed mine I used 12 inch centers for the porch joists.

Plus it won't give you a crack or splinter signaling it's about to fail. The bolt will just work it's way through the board and right into your boat. I'd go with tried and true here!

NO it wouldn't. Period :wow: Check the manufacturers recommended supports for this planking. From memory when I build my deck, I think you will find they recommend 16 to 24 inches maximum span.
