The recap by Alex and comments by Steve about cruising in the Keys got me started thinking.

Here are two guys (and there are probably are a lot more people on this site) who have been in both South Florida and the NJ/NY/CT/RI/MA areas.

Curious about the differences between the NE and S. Florida. Not looking for which is better, or even which is preferred. Each area covered by the people here offers unique cruising opportunities.

As someone who has never been cruising between the Chesapeake and Boston - would be interesting to hear comparisons, what is the same, what is different.

For example S Florida you encounter a mixture of floating docks and mixed piers. In Maine, you only see floating docks.

What are the marina's like?

Is it more or less crowed on the water?

What are depths like, shallow water/deep water?

Impact of weather changes?

Availability of destinations during cruising season?

All those other topics that I am not thinking of at the moment - but things that are different (or the same).

What are the challenges unique to the areas? What challenges are the same?

What skills are more important in the NE, that are not as important in S Fl?

Thanks for your thoughts and comments,

Mark
