The previous owner of my Sundancer 290 (deceased) installed commercial truck batteries rather than deep cycle marine batteries. Any ideas why? Advantage / Disadvantage? I would think deep cycle marine would be a better choice for managing the "house" loads.

I have worked for hd truck dealership for 26 years, unless they are a name brand and not store branded, and I would count on them letting you down. They will not warranty them for us unless we log starting the truck every single week!

Take a look at the wiring diagram in your owner's manual. There are no dedicated house batteries, all batteries double as house and starting batteries. Batteries 1 and 2 (starboard engine) are wired to function in parallel to provide double starting amps for the starboard engine. Battery 3 while primarily the starting battery for the port engine, also feeds the main DC buss at the same point in the master DC breaker panel where 1&2 do. The master Breaker panel then provides power to the EIMs and the main DC distribution panel.

An emergency cross over switch does not change this. As a result, you would want a dual purpose battery for use in a 290.
