We have the Spacemaker coffee pot, and (with little else to work on) have decided to focus on a replacement. I would like to solicit your input. Here are the parameters.

We are coffee junkies. At home, we are spoiled rotten by a Saeco Magic Comfort plus with fresh grind, espresso and foamers (incredible machine if you have an interest). We would like a pressurized system, with fresh grind for espresso. We also are somewhat coffee lazy, and would like to have as much of the process automated as possible. We could put something on the counter, and repurpose the coffee nook on the 380 but ideally would like to leave the coffee pot space as is. That means a similarly sized machine with front access for beans and water (although I could plumb the water easily enough). We have no interest in single serve machines (like Keurigs)...nothing at all against people that have them and love them...just not our aspirational goal. It may be that our parameters exclude all options other than putting it on the counter, but as I started looking at machines and there seemed to be thousands...it struck me to ask if anybody has been down this road already?

"somewhat coffee lazy" That's awesome. lol

I'm preparing to go down this road too, but I'm more coffee lazy than coffee junkie, so I'm hoping to find a 1-cup solution. I recently replaced a Tassimo at home, but I haven't taken measurements to see if it will even fit, and I'm not wild about having to pull it out to fill the rear-mounted resevoir each time.

We use a Kurig maker on the boat.....Love me some K-cups.

Do you store this someplace and get it out when you use it, or did you build in in somehow? I'm not sure it would fit into the coffee maker space our our boat, but would probably add it if it did.

I am definitely coffee lazy on the boat. Use the built in for heating the water only, then Starbucks via instant coffee. No cleanup other than pouring the left over water in the pot down the drain.

For what its worth, picked up an old time crank grinder box and have freshly ground at home in a $12 wal-mart coffee maker. Also quick cleanup. Buy the foam cups from SAMs - 500 pack. Lasts for years....admiral hates it. So they end up in the back of the avalanche for storing.

We have a Keurig at home, but when on the boat, we use a french press. We have an electric grinder, and we'll grind up fresh coffee and put it in a tupperware container on the boat (or grind on the boat if we remember to bring it) and boil water on the kettle for the press. To us, it is like a treat.

We use the single serve Keurig on the boat. It's small enough that I.ll leave out on the galley counter for the wknd but will store it when under way.

Low Wattage Keurig Selection / Testing:

I decided to purchase a low wattage Keurig (700W) for our 42 Sundancer so that we had the option of using an inverter and/or not over taxing the electrical system. The previous owner of our boat had removed the OEM model (which for 2005's was either the 12 cup Krups or the Spacemaker ODC325).

The Keurig model I selected was the K130 which is designed for the hospitality industry (hotels like this version so their electrical system is not overloaded in the morning with everybody brewing coffee). This model is available on Amazon for $82.95.

(Unboxing)

I decided to test the wattage of this new Keurig, and then also test the wattage of my regular home Keurig to confirm the difference.

**** THE K130 model (advertised as 700W max) ****

1) The K130 registers 1 watt when plugged in but not powered on: Screen Shot 2018-05-06 at 9.38.33 PM.png
2) K130 uses 651 watts when heating (after brew button is pushed): Screen Shot 2018-05-06 at 9.39.37 PM.png
3) After water heats, and coffee is brewing power drops to 2 watts: Screen Shot 2018-05-06 at 9.41.33 PM.png

**** The "regular" home / kitchen B40 Keurig model w/ water tank ****

1) Just plugged into the outlet, without being turned on, the B40 consumes 20 Watts!: Screen Shot 2018-05-06 at 9.47.57 PM.png

2) When the B40 it turned on and heating it jumps to 1349 Watts: Screen Shot 2018-05-06 at 9.49.22 PM.png

3) Then when the heating is complete, and the coffee is brewing it is still at 1187 Watts: Screen Shot 2018-05-06 at 9.50.56 PM.png
4) When the water is already heated, and it is just waiting for you to press the button for the next coffee power usage drops to 6 Watts: Screen Shot 2018-05-06 at 9.51.53 PM.png

Take aways: 1) I am going to consider keeping my home Keurig unplugged when not using it due to power consumption when it is supposedly "off". 2) I am going to try out the K130 on the boat - as I am hoping it will also fit nicely into one of the upper or lower cabinets due to it's small size. 3) The K130 takes longer to heat than the B40, but I can live with the few extra minutes to wait for my morning coffee.

We've had a single serve Keurig for the past couple summers on our boat, I think it's called a K-mini, or K-15. It was the smallest one I could find.

If we're not in a slip, we're firing up the genny in the morning for coffee, no question about that. I don't know how energy efficient it is if you're trying to use with an inverter. The Keurig is nice for us, because I like the regular stuff, and the admiral requires decaf. We always have a variety of pods on board, cause sometimes you get that need for Kona macadamia nut coffee... usually from one of the admiral's friends.

(In case of emergency, I usually keep some Dark Magic k-cups and Jameson around for making Irish coffee.)

I came across this the other day... The idea is to store where the B&D is and put it on the counter when in use. Keep forgetting to measure cabinet to see if it will fit.

@be_prepared I like your thinking on the coffee varieties - especially for the emergency Irish Coffee options!

@Blueone I brought the Keurig K130 to the boat this afternoon, and it fits perfectly (for storage) in the upper right cabinet where the original OEM coffee maker was installed: Screen Shot 2018-05-07 at 11.17.59 PM.png

I will still bring it down to the counter, when we are actively using it for brewing - but with such limited counter space I didn't want the counter to be it's permanent home when it was not being used.

I thought I measured for the K130 and it wouldnt fit... I am going to measure again. Thanks for the info and pic. Same here with permanently losing counter space
