My 98 270 has lighted toggle switches for all accessories but the labels for these switches appears to be just silk screened on with white lettering. How do I light up these labels while underway. I know the instrument cluster has a dimmer for the gauges but I'm talking about lighting up the labels so I can see what to turn on or off at night. Have I missed something???

If the dash panel is just silk screened, then an external light will help. You would want something with a red bulb that focused the light towards the panel but not in your eyes. Some of the solutions I have seen for this are lights that mount on the dash and are basically a small gooseneck that you can position. Originally these things were made for rally cars so the navigator could read a map without disturbing the driver's night vision.

Other solution would be to just replace the dash panels. Scott Cambra at Vector can make you a new dash panel with labels/ names that can be back lit.
