I have a question. On the Lower Starboard control panel, there is a button with a rectangle with a zig-zag line running thru it. Does anyone know what this button is for. Thanks !

That is typically used for the fresh water pump - however - not all boats are wired to use it. I have the same button on my boat but the fresh water pump switch is on the circuit panel - so this is a spare for my boat.

Thanks......relying on a SeaRay manuel ..........? we all know what happens there.

You’ve also got a portside wiper switch and no port wiper, plus the always useful hatch lift switches without the lift! The good news is that each of these switches function and are wired with breakers in the appropriate EIM module. The manual has wire color codes and pin out numbers so you can locate the stub wire coming from the EIM. So if you want to add a hatch lift the wiring is all there, all that has to be done is attach the lift mechanicals and wire the motor to the stubs on the aft EIM.

I have a 2001 280. My panel also has the electric hatch lift button with no electric hatch lift.
I have no desire to install an electric hatch lift since raising it manually is very easy and foolproof. However, is it safe to “re-purpose” the switch to control some add-on accessory, considering amperage draw, of course? I would like to add lots of intrinsically safe LED engine room lighting.
My biggest concern is causing a fire by overloading a circuit.

You won't overload a circuit adding LED lighting unless you are wiring up a Christmas boat parade setup!
The breaker amperage should tell you the capacity of that circuit. If it can run a hatch motor its probably a pretty hefty 12v circuit.

That switch definitely controls the fresh water pump

FYI there is a 280 forum here with about 300+ pages of questions, answers and improvements.
