Cockpit Carpet on the Cheap

After a full season in the sun, my Plasti-dip backed carpets didn't stick or flake.

I stopped by my local Walmart this afternoon as I was really interested in this post.

All I could find was 5'x7' area rugs, and they did not resemble berber. They did have a grey color, but I don't think 7' will work for my application. Did I look in the wrong section?

Okay does anyone have any reports about how well the plasti dip worked? Did any carpets stick to the deck? Did the new backing material still flack off after a period of time?

Thanks

All good.

Sorry to bump an older thread, but does anyone know if Walmart still carries this type of carpet?

I too did the plasti-dip and after that dried I went 1 more step...I used the Fiber-lock on them also! They are holding up very well and absolutely no sticking to the floor. However, I stored the carpets in my enclosed trailer for a few weeks and the Fiber-lock made them stick together probably because of the heat. They peeled apart easy and nothing peeled off. I think I want new ones now just because thes look kinda dingy after I saw new ones.....lol

Good post John and the results look great. I have the same problem with the original carpet backing leaving black rubber on the floor, large gaps at seams and carpet snaps that will no longer reach floor screws. I had considered replacing with new snap-on carpets that are custom fitted for the boat, but as everyone has noted...very expensive. Then I looked at products like NuTeak, Flexiteak and again...very expensive. You have given me another alternative to consider. Thanks for sharing.
