cockpit carpet backing

I used durabak smooth coating in black. 2 years and perfect. Talked to others before I did it and they were at 4-5 years and still perfect.

On my 310 that i sold before this boat i own now DURABAK lasted 5 years and im sure still good for
the new owners...

Curious if anybody has any long term results from using the plasti dip or plastic cote. My carpets are losing their backing and I hate to buy new when they still look great

Plasti dip was a resounding failure for my carpets. Just one experience though.

I've had Plasti dip on the back of my carpets for 6 years now. When I put it on the carpet back was really bad. I cleaned up the old stuff that was coming off before I applied it. Used 3 coats so it was very well coated.
There are a few spots where it it just starting to crack now.
I'd certainly recommend it to get some extra years out of your carpets.

Any idea how much it took? Looks like i can get 14.5 ounces for $7. i wonder if three of four cans would be enough?

I bought a gallon of it and used about 3/4 of it.

So just curious what happened to make it a failure?

I tried plasti dip from a can on both semi-ok backing and backing that have completely crumbled and had been removed with a brush. For the semi-ok backing, the plasti dip had no effect on preserving the backing. It continued to deteriorate and the backing came off with the plasti dip.

On the carpet with the backing removed, getting all the crumbled backing off was a pain. Then I applied multiple coats of plasti dip with a brush and roller. It kind of soaked it, and was never able to build up enough material to create an actual backing.

I also tried flexiseal and rustomleum's version. Those worked worse that plasti dip. At the end of the day the aggravation of trying to fix older carpets lost out to simply replacing them with new Aquamats from Corinthian carpets.

For the coverage I got and the effect, the stuff was extremely expensive and not worth it.

Well I was in home depot.amd grabbed the plasti dip this afternoon and just put the first coat on. Hopefully not a total waste of money but I will report back and let everyone know how it goes.

I wonder if a local carpet store could supply replacement carpet?

Yes. We have one in RIC. Do Not go to a homedepotlowes. Go to a real carpet place. Bring a template or perhaps, they will come to your boat and design the stuff for you. That's a real win-win.
