Coating ?? coming off Ski Locker 195 sport

Hi there,
Recently my oil pressure switch dumped my oil. Mechanic failed to clean all it out and water swillied it around up into ski locker and of course under the engine.
With the power washer today i noticed the top coating was coming off in coin size pieces. As it if was pain chips coming off. I know the engine bay is gelcoat. I am wondering what the ski locker floor coat is? What is this that is coming off. it was leaving a layer under it that is pinksih in color.

Can someone tell me what this would be that is coming off and if it is bad and if it will do anything or should i have something repaired?

I picked my boat up for the weekend from my gelcoat repairer as i have gelcoat cracks on the hull of the boat from a wave smashing into it. So if something needs to be done now is the time when i return it on monday for the work to commence.

Id love to know all someone could tell me please

You need to find a better mechanic.

That sounds like a part of the problem. Pressure washers can potentially be destructive.

Can someone tell me what this would be that is coming off and if it is bad and if it will do anything or should i have something repaired?

It is cosmetic. It really doesn't need to be repaired to boat safely.

I'd like to hear more about this rogue wave that cracked your boat. How do you know it was a wave?

I was told this by my glass repairer because there is no impact markings on the boat. He says it was from some chop. I do remember getting airborn so think it must have been that. It is about 8 feet in length fromt the front of the boat and is a big circle from top to bottom of the boat. All gel coat cracking.

I found it impossible to find a person to redo the gelcoat. They all say that yellow is too hard to match. I then found a guy who does the repairs for manufacturers new boats so he is positive he can repair it in gelcoat and not two pack paint like the rest, so I went with him. Insurance covered it.


As for that other thread, yes it is the same. It is massive chunks now I have noticed. Really dissapointing but it kind of looks like its something to be expected.
