Any one out there Coast Gaurd Documented? I am sure there is but my question is where do you mark your official number on the inside of the boat? The documentation states you must permanently mark in Arabic numerals 3" high on a clealy visible member of the vessel. I called the previous owner and he said he never heard of that. So I know this has never been done. I did not realize this either til I read it in Chapman's. Not a big deal yet as she is still drydocked, but when we move we want to be ready. Thanks in advance. Jim

Hello Jim, my wife and I have been looking at larger boats, and those that are documented have their numbers on a bulkhead in the ER. Usually on the stringers. The really nice ones have a plaque, some just have them painted on. Hope that helps.

Good luck

Recent Thread

We'd discussed this recently and someone posted a link to a neat solution.

I ordered one just cuz they are so seamanlike ... beats the plastic numbers set in varnish the previous owner did. This will fix that assault!

Check the other thread as FWebster has a very well done mod also ... and you get a tiny peek at a immaculate ER !

In my ER from the original owner...

Here's another approach that will pass and will not come off. I've posted the methodology a time or 2 so if you are interested in doing it this way, you might search the CSR site.

Would this pass since it is screwed on and could be removed? Just a thought!

If it is removed it will leave a "Mark"....as per the rules. They don't say what kind of "Mark". Many use the approach that Frank posted. That too will leave a "Mark" if removed, but let's face it, any fiberglass guy can hide the "Mark".

Bottom line answer...yes...if you get boarded, and the coasties check, they will accept the screwed in plaque. But if it makes you feel better, just put some epoxy on the back of the plaque so if it is remove, the "Mark" will be very noticable.

I went the documentation board route and installed it on the bulk head between the ER and solon with 5200 after putting 12 coats of varnish on it. My ER is white gel coat and the board looks great. It can be easily viewed by opening the day hatch in the cockpit floor.

fwebster, I like the looks of this. Read your other post on this and I think this is the ticket for me. Probaly tackle this weekend. Thanks for all the help.

Frank - was there a link in your original msg? I have some question re:display of USCG official number.

Thanks.
