Any suggestions for what to use to clean the toilet bowl with?

The Admiral thinks the answer is on this site somewhere but I have searched and searched.

Any suggestions are appreciated. Just don't want to use the wrong stuff.

First of all you don't want to clean with something that will interrupt the enzyhme breakdown of your toilet additive (deodorant and head chemical). If it's heavily stained, clean with a good toilet cleaner BUT do not flush! Wipe it up and then flush and rinse. Should work just fine.

I am less concerned with the enzyme breakdown because the Admiral always cleans the head & flushes with a couple gallons of fresh water right before we go to the pump out station.

After reading here on CSR, I'm more concerned about the possible breakdown of rubber parts & seals from overly harsh cleaning chemicals & heavy bleach.

We scrubbed it when we bought it, now its just a simple cleaning every trip to the boat. Thats my plan.

I have no idea what my wife actually uses but when the kids are misbehaving I tell them if they don’t knock it off I’m going to clean the toilet with their toothbrush.

Who knows, maybe my wife used MY toothbrush.

We clean the bowl after each weekend the boat is used with this stuff. Not only does it clean, it keeps the rubber toilet parts pliable. We use the Sealand holding tank deoderizer too, that way we know everything is chemically compatible. In my opinion, household toilet cleaners, especially bleach, have no place on a boat.

Google it, you can find it at many retailers for boat & RV.

I have used the scrubby bubbles and clorox cleanup. These are in moderation and the bleach content isn't strong enough to concern me. Besides it gets rinsed with the next flush. Also I'm not worried about enzymes as this is a holding tank not a septic tank. And as far as odors go most newer boats have (or should) a charcoal filter that takes care of that negating the need for deodorizers.

Our tank is emptied after every outing.... Now, with that being said we have a ceramic bowl and we use a little comet with a toilet brush rinsing well....

Between cleanings, a fizzing denture tablet in the bowl makes things minty fresh and clean. If I ever get dentures, I'll kill two birds w/ one stone.
