Cleaning Eisenglass

Why all the fuss about cleaning these things! It's not rocket science! We had original 7 year old isenglass in until a couple years ago when it was replaced. The stuff coulda passed for new. The only type of care I gave them was weekly rinses with the hose followed by a damp towel to wipe them off. I would then every couple weeks hit them with the aerosol 210 stuff and that was it! I am not an average joe that when I say they looked good they were really still scratched up. I am VERY anal and they were practically FLAWLESS. I did notice that the aerosol wax stuff did start to build up and cause a slight hazing which was removed by polish. I just layed off waxing them soo much and now only do it about 3 times a season. I know Michigan may not have the harshest environment but with my minimal routine they stayed looking great. Granted I was starting with nice windows to begin with. The other thing you have to remember is the more polishing the more scratching your liable to do. Lets face it, polishing is actually micro-sanding (is that a word?) the surface. The less times you touch the glass the less chances your gonna scratch it. All these cleaners and magic polishes are just overkill if you ask me! Anyone is more than welcome to come inspect ours and see for yourself! (And set up 24hr surveillance if you don't believe me on the minimal care!)

We're in Sunshine.

We used to be docked down at Brady, but sold the HB and now just stick to the trailer. Considering that Brady just went up another 20% I'm done with slip rentals for the time being.

I've worked on J Dock and I believe we've even bumped into each other. I take care of Miles' Bayliner Cuddy that used to be a few slips down from you guys. I think the name of the boat is Red Fish. I also know Brad with the 42' Fountain across from you. I put on the Flash Gordon Memorial Poker Run. I also met your neighbor on the Fourth of July a few years ago when I got suckered in to driving around a drunkin idiot. This guy was to drunk to drive his own boat, so I had to take the helm and it wasn't pleasant.

Lots of History on Ouachita.

Stay in touch and let me know if you guys need anything.

Donnie

I agree. Pretty much do the same thing. Don't "over process" but keep things clean and hit the glass with a little Plexus and that's about it. Have not had to replace the eisenglass. Still looks new on this boat, but was also the case with my others. We are in the weather only 6 months per year which is an advantage over the guys down south and in the salt.

Hi all,

When the boat is not being used, there is a snap on dark blue Sunbrella type cover that snaps over the Isinglass. However in one spot (in the direction where the sun particularly shines) the dye from the Sunbrella cover seems to have leeched onto the surface of the Isinglass giving it a cloudy pinkish coloring:

Any suggestions on what I could / should use to clean and remove the dye that seems to have transferred or baked into the surface of the glass?

Thanks!

PLEXUS only with a soft microfiber towel, and I only use them once or twice. I only go thru a can or two a year...pretty cheap comparatively.

This is the best stuff i use. Begining of year, midd year then before i put away for winter. Super easy to do

I use Plexus on mine... It actually has a wax in it also. I'm not sure I would use wool on that stuff as wool is abrasive. Also, NEVER use paper towels. Paper towels are *very* abrasive and some of them have glass chips in them to make them that way.

That’s what I use too.

Ive been useing Lemon Pledge for at least 35 years on my boat and on my planes and never had a problem what so ever. Thats just my experience with Pledge.
