I have just purchased a 2006 290 Sundancer and the owner's manual says to clean the return air filter once a month. I wanted to find and clean this filter, so I found Fig. 7.2.1 on page 7.2 of the owner's manual that shows the removable filter and another Fig. 7.2.2 that shows the A/C unit under the forward V-berth. I did not find a way to remove the bed cushions to access the A/C unit and did not find a manual for the A/C-heater among all the manuals received. Can anyone tell me what the make and model of A/C unit in a 290 and a source of downloading the manual for it?

Clean the filter with a vacuum cleaner, or soap and water if real dirty. Keep looking, your AC/Heat is just one unit that should not be difficult to access on an 06' 290DA.

Your forward berth folds "up" by pulling the strap in the center of the berth up and towards you. It folds into a couch. To get to filter you have climb over it then remove the access panels that are under the berth cushions. You may have to dig between the cushions to find that strap.

All the cushions lift out. The bed actually turns into a couch. Feel in the center section of the cushions, grab the loop and pull up. Remove all the cushions.

There will be an access panel you can lift up and remove. Grab a flash light. The unit is in a VERY tight space. The filter is a thin element about a 1/4 inch thick located at the front of the unit (thats the part facing the stern of the boat). Pull straight up. You will likely have bloody knuckles by now. Get a shop vac and clean the element.

It will slide back in a rail on each side. This is a pain and will cause more bleeding. Slide the element back down and put everything back.

Thanks for telling me how to find that filter. I will let you know how many bandaids I use. Also I will check out that storage space at the head of the bed. Thanks for the replies.

I found and cleaned the filter. I also noticed the drip pan was rusted and opened a new thread about that. One reply said to call Domestic and give them my A/C serial number to see if they would replace it with a SS pan. I found the S/N and called them. I was passed to Jacob at Cruisair and gave him all the info. He said he would send me a new pan (no charge), and it should be here today or tomorrow. I will let you know how it turns out.

Just got my free replacement pan from Cruisair. I asked where I could get a new air filter and they threw one of those in the box also. No charge. Now the fun begins.
