There are some older threads about cleaners for a dinghy. I was wondering if anyone has found a newer 'miracle' cleaner. We just purchased a used Brig 330 Falcon. There are a couple reddish coloured marks from the tie down straps.

Spray 9 from West Marine might work. MEK substitute is going to be very harsh, but is effective as well.

We like Nautical Ease products for most things including the dinghy

If its diesel soot I have not found anything yet on a pvc boat.

+1 and that is exactly why I subscribed to this thread as I was lurking in the background to see if anybody had a "miracle" for diesel soot.... Thank God my dinghy is gray, but I still see it !

Diesel soot comes right off with this. Simple Green sprayed on pretty heavily, soak a few mr clean magic erasers in a bucket of hot water and start gently scrubbing. Rinse and repeat. Also sometimes some westleys beech white tire cleaner works wonders too.

I have tried everything else, so I'll give this a go.... Thank you !

A dealer told me they have their guys scrub with Bar Keepers Friend powder first to strip what it can, then use some of Carvers tricks for the super tough stuff. Don't forget to give it a good coat of 303 to protect the stripped finish. Also helps keep it from staining.

Don't know if this was mentioned yet as I did not go back to start of thread, but I was told by a guy who repairs dinghies that MEK (Methel Ethel Ketone) works wonders on PVC dinghies. I can vouch for it. This stuff works well at cleaning my white Mercury dinghy. Take your time working a small area at a time.

H Gerry, any problems with your PVC Mercury? I keep waffling between Mercury and Zodiac..... Been back and forth several times on this decision so far.

I've had both the Zodiac and the Mercury and I have to say the Mercury was a great boat for the money. Both were PVC. Currently have a Mercury Amanzi in white hypalon and I'm very frustrated by the mold spots that the boat has that are in the fabric not on the surface and are impossible to remove. My friend has a newer version of the same boat I have and has the same problem.

Hmm, good to hear. Yes, the Mercury prices on Defender are excellent. I noticed some say I-Beam Air Floor (not a High Pressure floor). Any thoughts on that? I am looking at it for light use, fishing with kids, buzzing around protected waters...etc.

We have a Mercury Ocean Runner Center Console, white Hypalon. If the magic eraser doesn't get it clean MEK on a clean rag does. Using either you will need to seal it back up with the 303. Those spiders play hell on the white Hypalon. We spray ours with a light mix of Permethren and keep in a custom canvas.

Not sure what the I-Beam Air floor is but I've never been a fan of any air floors. I'd much rather have the wood floor. Makes for a stiffer more secure floor and it's one less thing to leak air.
